The latest fad is to stand at a bridge and watch the water rise. Its currently 3 feet from over flow the levee's and then tons of water will pour onto businesses and homes on the other side of the levee. Some of the downtown has flooded along the river already.

Des Moines is like a police state. Absolutely nothing for the 14-18 kids to do.
The police arrest you if you're on the streets after 11pm.
Remember Stepford Wives? Yep, thats Des Moines. Without pretty landscaping.
Everyone goes to bed at 10pm, or forced to.

If you listen quietly, you can hear the property taxes rising too. Like a cab meter.

The kids loop... policed. Gay loop... policed.
A few bars, but you can get drunk in any city. Nothing special.
Be sure to carry a knife if bar hopping.

No movie theaters after 9:30pm.

Oh, you can go to Walmart 24/7 and look at fat people.

Most young people dont ask what is there to do... They ask how the hell can I escape!!!

But right now the big thing is watching the river waters rise.
PS. Bring tons of bug lotion. And itch cream.
And remember, dont get caught out after 11pm. The police like to shoot unarmed kids holding pop cans. They are never held accountable, naturally.
(I bet you think I?m kidding? you?ll find out.)
