Anyone know BestBuy's return policy on Video cables

Yes, I just got a TV. Yes, I had to go to Best Buy to get a HDMI cable for the football game. Yes, the guy told me I needed the $90 HDMI Monster cable. I now realize I can get a 6 foot HDMI cable from many online stores for under $15. I also spent $40 on component, which I can of course get cheaper.

Now to my point. Can I return them to Best Buy for a full refund? I want to order my new cables and wait for them to arrive before I return my old ones to Best Buy.

no, I actually bought the $60 one right in front of the sales rep - even though he said that because I seemed like a nice guy, he could not recommend anything but the $90 cable. It was practically the cheapest one.

ya, I was thinking of monoprice - Even there most expensive 6' cable is cheaper than Best Buy's cheapest cable.

However he did say that the the "cheap" cable was copper with gold tips. Whereas the $90 had silver in it too. And I really needed the silver in the cable for the extra quality.......

I'm torn... on one hand, the OP is being a douche by using Best Buy to "rent" cables for free until his arrive from a cheaper online dealer. On the other hand, Best Buy sells $10 cables for $90 and lies to people about what they need.

no need to be torn. absolutely nothing wrong with being a douche to best buy. best buy deserves it. If the OP did this to any other company, I would frown on his activity. This is Best Buy though, so it's acceptable.

Best buy is just getting karmic reaction as a result of higher pricing on their intranet, arresting people for using $2 bills, saying your laptop needs 2 gb of RAM because "XP will stop running on less than 2gb", signing you up for AOL without your consent, calling certain customers "devil customers", not honoring extended warranties etc

when best buy loses money, everybody is a winner

I wish best buy had a face so I could punch it

Bring 'em back and get your money back. Cables are their main profit driver (that and service plans) and they will flat-out lie in order to sell you something that you can get cheaper somewhere else.

Well, it was not my intention to "rent" them actually. I went there to buy and keep the cables b/c I needed them right away. However after spending $100 on 1 6' HDMI and 1 6' component video I had a feeling I was getting screwed. When I looked online and can get one for $5 instead of $60 I was none to happy. If it was within $10 or so I would just leave it alone and avoid the hassle. But for a possible return of $65 or more on both cables I think it's worth it.

Plus Best Buy should get screwed. 1. They sell the cables for WAY too much, which I don't have a huge problem with b/c it's a business. 2. Where I have a MAJOR problem is when the salesman flat out lies to my face and says that cheap cable won't work and I need the $100 Monster cable.

best buy is fine. they target the ignorant and lazy. who go into the store and purchase cables for way to much.

I just bought 2 6' HDMI cables for $10 shipped. I won't get the clarity and detail that I would from a Monster cable, but I'm on a budget. ;)

If he opened the box, it will be subject to a %15 restocking fee. If it's unopened, it will be fine.

When they ask you why, just say they were the wrong cables - don't say "too expensive" or something like that.

How about if I pull a Seinfeld and say "spite". I hope they don't have that fee. It might not be worth it then, espeically if the quality suffers. I don't want cheap quality or cheap picture, but I don't want to spend extra where I won't see a difference either.

Yeah I hear where you're coming from with these stupid cables. I've been shopping around locally for an HDMI cable just because I like to see in person the cable I'm buying before I get it and the cheapest I've seen is like $50 for a 3 foot cable. That's friggin' ridiculous considering the upconverting dvd player I bought that I want the cable for only cost me $75 on sale! I'll be buying one online as well. I've been limping along using three composite cables as component cables. These are absolute crap free composite cables that came with various things I've bought and the picture still looks a boat load better on the upconverting player than on my old one with an svideo hookup.

Returning a cable because you found an equivalent one for MUCH less is a perfectly valid reason.
