Anyone know anything about the Mayans?

Now is that Dec. 5th, 2012, before the creation of the Gregorian Calendar or after? Remember current calendar dropped a few days in September 1752.

Good point to bring up, Bootprint. This is according to the current Gregorian calendar. I knew the year was 2012 for a while, but I pinpointed the exact day using a model of our solar system that shows the calendar down to the exact day when you rotate the model. Dec 5th is the day when I believe all the solar bodies are in perfect alignment.

Not even close to alignment according to Celestia...

Hmmm... now that I think about it, I'm not positive they predicted solar eclipses.... lunar eclipses most definitely.

Astronomy is way different than predicting something cataclysmic. Lunar eclipses are a regular thing that we're able to predict as well, it's not that hard, especially if you've seen primative calanders (I read about some golden circular one in a National Geographic I think 2 months ago).

I also heard for some other source that the world was supposed to end in 2012 as well.

I think the other said a meteor was supposed to get us.

Ah hell, I won't be able to get it up anymore by then anyway, so who cares?! 😉

All I know about the Mayans is that they had great archers in the Age of Empires 2 expansion pack called The Conquerors.

Those Mayan jav throwers in Civ3 kind of blow though.

OK well I just found another website talking about the Mayan calendar and according to them, the end of "The great cycle" is on the 12th of December, 2012.

Who knows??

Well I believe that is the scheduled date the Vogons will begin construction on the bypass. It's been available on file for a while now...didn't you get the memo?

No I think I missed that one....
Anyway, it should also be the date that the Anunnaki return from the planet Nibiru to re-enslave their creation: Homo Sapiens

The Bible Codes supposedly predict a comet hitting in 2012. Maybe the Mayans predicted it also. They were great astronomers.

Also there are predictions for magnetic shift in 2012.

Seems to be a year that is going to suck.

I wrote a grad paper on their calendar a few years ago.... incredibly interesting stuff...

IIRC, supposedly, the world ends at the end of their calendar.

They were damn good at predicting stuff.

...and what else did they "predict"??

they were particularly good at predicting lunar and solar eclipses. Meanwhile, our ancestors were running for cover, saying their prayers, and fearing the end of the world.

Don't forget the few intelligent people who did predict it were accused of being sorcerers and satanists and were burned at the stake

OK...just to throw a wrench in the works...

Anyone heard of or read any books by Zecharia Sitchin?
Zecharia Sitchin

boo this man!

Why? Have you actually read any of it?

Not saying I completely agree with him but I do think at one time in the ancient past we were more knowledgable of astronomy than we were until very recently.

He does put forth some very interesting theories and even backs a lot of it up with documented historical accounts/facts. He is actually a well known (although not universally agreed with) historian. A lot of people think he's crazy, but...

twenty-twelve, we're fvcked.
Isn't that when we are supposed to have a great war and most of the earth is destroyed? Atleast that's what one guy said in a message forum. He claimed to be from the future and was trying to get historical info or something like that. He said that the world was almost destroyed and only a few survivors. I thought it was funny, but maybe he wasn't joking. :Q

i saw a show on discovery that said their was a burial chamber in an egyptian pyramid that also illustrated a 2012 ending calendar. I can't remember much of the details but it was interesting that both the mayans and egyptians had similar end points. most of the websites about this topic are new age and half crazy sounding. I studied the topic for a month or too, there is an actual body of theology devoted to the topic called eschatology (the study of final events)

as to how or if it will all go down, i think it's up to us. depends how much hatred, anger, ignorance, greed and bigotry we're holding onto collectively. if we let it go then we'll be fine, and eventually the greatest of dreams will be actualized, if not then the nightmares should begin happening more regularly.

regardless, things like 9/11, the tsunami, economic upheavals and religious extremism are good indicators that the sh*t is on it's way to the fan.

I am reading this book "fingerprints of the gods" where the author says the mayan calender was actually proven to have been around before the mayans. He says the olmecs used the same calender and claims that there was some advanced civilization(sort of like atlantis) thousands of years ago that was wiped out in a cataclysm. Aparently he thinks the calender came from them and that they were able to predict some kind of major cataclysm that happens every certain number of years.
