I studied JKD for a while. My sifu studied under Ted Wong, who trained directly under Lee. What DaShen said is true, Lee's students all came away with something slightly different and each "family" has it's own particular style of JKD. Some are more focused on striking, others on grappling, some more balanced between the two. There is no single JKD style. It's a style without a style, to paraphrase Bruce.
It was a lot of fun and a good workout, and even though I only studied a couple years I did learn quite a bit about the basics of fighting such as stances and balance, effective takedowns, and getting more power out of strikes regardless of style. If you're getting a free lesson it can't hurt to try.
