UPS pissed me off yesterday. i wanted to send a package w/ insurance because it was very valuble. They wanted to charge 1 dollar insurance for every 100 of value. This came out to some ungodly amount like 300 bux to insure it + the overnight costs of shipping.

Come on, they are insuring themselves not to lose the package. Are they saying they lose 1% of packages b/c that would be horrible work. Just another way for them to rape me i guess.

no dice, i'm delivering the package myself on southwest, round trip only 180 bux. eat it UPS

Running drugs again, I guess you being a doctor, has connections. :p

Anywho, why would anyone buy insurance, they are still liable if they lose your package whether you got insurance or not.

i've checked it out the past 3.5 years.
It is very physical, and fast paced. if you aren't into working at top speed for a majority of the shift I would stay away.
granted you can do it slow, but all you'll do is piss your immediate coworkers off.
when you start you will either unload or load. unloading consists of ballstothewall work tha requires no thinking.
loading is the same with the exception of actually having to know a crapload of zipcodes and looking at the label.
you can apply for a supervisory position after 30 days if you enjoy being yelled at for things you have no control over. I would go into more detail but I have to get ready for an interview

i know 2 guys that worked for UPS, and they fvcking hate it fedex might be the same way, but they pay a lil more and are more anal about package handling

they get half there school payed for and one of them still quit cause it was so bad

on another note, if you ship somthing use fedex instead of UPS, its a bit more expensive but worth it on high buck items

I worked for UPS for around 3 years. Great company. Worked as a Union Loader and as a Supervisor. I don't know what that one guy is talking about that we would get yelled at for stuff that isn't our fault. I never got yelled at once. Anyway, if you have any questions PM me. It's a great company to work for. And at some hubs they pay for more than half of your tuition.

well what i'm NOT looking for is some dumb ass post like SLU MD posted. I'm wanting to know how they go about hiring? I've heard they go through the unemployment office? Position wanted = loader/unloader or driver.

When I went to pick up a package a month ago, I saw a poster in their office saying they only accept applications through their jobs website: http://www.upsjobs.com

hope that helps

yeah it doesnt make sense, dont worry bout it. they insure up to 100 bux on every package, but more insurance costs more.

Anyone that lives here in Memphis either has worked for FedEx at some point or is in the 1 degree of separation from knowing someone that does.

I worked there over a summer in offload (loading/unloading planes). It was fun, but I couldn't take the drag of working at night and trying to stay in school and keep a girlfriend at the same time.

$300 for insurance on a $30,000 item is really quite reasonable.

i'm gonna have to disagree. that means they lose 1% of packages. If they actually do that, they are running a terrible shipping company. It may sound good, but its a ripoff.
