You serve video to phone, tablet, computer, chromcast.

Anime is a bit of a mixed bag with Plex. First of all, it takes a bit more effort to setup an anime library than it does normal TV or movies. Plex uses scanners to read the files and determine what they are, and then uses an agent to find out all the information (episode title, etc.). Well, as you'd expect, the default scanners don't work well with anime as they're based off American TV. That means you have to split large series (e.g. Naruto or One Piece) into seasons defined by the English airings. To fix this, I use the Absolute Series Scanner scanner and the HamaTV agent. The ASS scanner allows you to have large single seasons (all Plex content has to be segmented into seasons, but you can hide them in the settings) where normal scanners will see "Title 123" as "Title Season 1 Episode 23", ASS will see it as "Title Episode 123". I have had a few weird issues with shows like Eyeshield 21, which has a number at the end. That required me to insert the SxxExx format into the filenames.

The one thing that I never figured out was how to get ASS to read and add movies within a series. In other words, you could take all the One Piece movies and insert them alongside the episodes rather than be separate entries.

EDIT:

An issue that I'm having right now is with dual-audio, dual-sub files. In Plex, you can setup the default subtitle language, but if there's more than one of that language, it just chooses the first one regardless of whether the other one is marked as default. I might just remove the OP/ED-only subtitle to keep things easy, but that requires a remux where adjusting track settings can be done quickly.

I do “name - S00E00“ and it works fine.

Well, season 00 is what you use for specials. I normally just name those Sxx and that considers them a special as long as there isn't an episode designation. Although, I have to be careful about shows like Saekano Flat as the designation "Saekano S2" gets it put under specials as the second one as "Saekano S2" isn't the designated name on AniDB.

I used 00 to denote numerals. Not specifically referring to specials and recaps but whatever works. Saekano - S02E1 works.

Anyone else feel a bit awkward watching Eromanga-sensei? It seems like each subsequent episode makes me feel like more and more of a perv for watching it... and it's starting to get to uncomfortable levels. That's from someone who can usually brush off most weirdness in anime with a simple, "Oh, Japan... you crazy!" :p

I don't think that would work with ASS + HamaTV. Some shows do work fine with "Show_Name S2 - ##", but that's because AniDB's official name includes the "S2". If you're using the default scanner, that should work so long as it matches up with the American releases. Shorter shows are usually fine with that, but I swapped to ASS + HamaTV because of the longer shows.

I am enjoying Kado. Yes people will say it is self agrandizing for Japan, but this is a Japanese production so there.

Watched Parasyte the Maxim. It mostly followed the normal progression where the hero gets more powers as time goes on. But it wasn't in the usual way. Also the theme of the show was unusual I thought. Similar things have been done before since it's really a variation on the buddy movie, but it was an interesting one.

Also watched Tokyo Ghoul. Saw it was playing on adult swim so I checked it out. Another interesting concept that I thought was well executed.

Shinchi coitus scene with Satomi made me cry. Finally, he is not a wimpy protagonist anymore

Did you watch the uncensored versions? IIRC adult swim aired the censored version? correct me if I'm wrong.

Probably so, but I didn't watch it on AS. I dl'ed it. I like using VLC player for most of my video.

I was surprised at the Satomi-Shinichi scene you mentioned. The whole series you had these 2 awkward teenagers who could barely hold hands w/o being interrupted. Then all of a sudden they're in bed together engaging in pillow talk. It was a nice scene but didn't seem to fit.

Also watched Noragami (Stray God). That was different, an interesting plot.

But what I really like is Future Diary. I'm only a few episodes in but I really like it.

Be damn sure to watch Mirai Nikki Redial (the OVA).
Proper ending to the series IMHO, but it was never dubbed.

Not sure if there is a subbed BluRay 1080p release out there, but I made one myself by retiming the subs from the old SD release
and retypesetting it to be consistent with the main series.

I was looking for some good anime to watch, so I perused AniDB a bit. I mostly just organized it all by highest rating, which is a mixed bag, but I ended up finding one that I missed somehow. I binge watched all of Usagi Drop in two days -- most of it being yesterday -- and it was quite good. One thing that stood out was how they used watercolor for all the scenes that took place prior to the opening, and then transitioned to a normal line art style.

The story is about a guy's grandfather dies, and the guy goes to visit his home. When visiting, he finds out that his grandfather had a child out of wedlock. (The grandmother is barely mentioned, but she was already dead.) He meets the six-year-old girl (Rin), sort of befriends her, and when everyone argues about what to do with her... he decides to take her home to live with him. So, it's pretty much a story of a 30-year-old salaryman adapting to life with a kid. So, it has some similarities with Amaama to Inazuma from last year.

I'm sure @Cappuccino would find the daughter super cute. :p

Going to watch After story tonight. :innocent:

I'll await your post after finishing that.
