I'm just waiting for customer service to confirm that the hz is really 240hz, the description says 60hz-240hz.

If the seller confirms it's 240hz I will buy it immediately.

I'm a little confused on how to use the Amazon Visa, I think I'll wait until tomorrow to go to the Chase bank and ask for advice on how to use it.

I'm just afraid of making a mistake.

You order something, and when they ask for payment, you give them the card info. In about a week, you get what you ordered. Then you don't make the payments you said you were gonna make, Chase sends you increasingly nasty nastygrams, and your currently barely existing credit limit goes zero. The next credit line a (likely sleazy)company gives you will come with eyewatering interest rates.

I was planning on using my bank of America debit card to pay for the charges, but it was confusing and like I said before, I'm afraid of making a mistake.

You will:
  • Enter your new card info at checkout
  • They will add the price, say $2100 with tax and shipping to your card's balance. This will leave you with $900 of credit if you have a $3000 limit
  • On or before the day you set as your monthly payment date when you got the card (log into the credit card website to check), you will need to at least make the minimum payment, usually by tying a bank account to your credit provider and pulling the money directly out of your checking account, so you'll need to have at least that much cash in your account at that time.
  • Any balance greater than zero after that point will incur interest at the rate you agreed to. This means if you pay $100 on your due date, you'll have an outstanding balance of $2000 once that processes. The next day (or soon after), that number will increase based on your interest rate. Let's say to $2050
  • This means you effectively paid off $50, not $100, which is why credit is so dangerous and it's best to just pay off all $2100
If you end up with a 0% rate for a year, then that's great, but you'll need to pay it off completely in that time - some cards will back-charge interest if you don't get your balance down to $0. If you do not make regular payments on this card, you will obliterate your credit rating and things like a car, house, etc. will be much more expensive for you for a long time.

Be diligent about making payments on this. Make them a few days early incase problems happen.

Each month, you get a bill and then you pay it. The only way to make a mistake is to not pay the bill on time. That is it.

You don't pay for credit cards with debit cards. The easiest way is to give your bank information to the credit card to have the money transferred electronically. But, just like any other bill, you can also mail a check or have your bank mail a check.

This is correct:
you will need to at least make the minimum payment, usually by tying a bank account to your credit provider and pulling the money directly out of your checking account, so you'll need to have at least that much cash in your account at that time.

Good ol' predatory American lending, let's give someone with no job that doesn't know how to apply for a credit card (or how to use it) a card with a $3k limit.
/sigh

Is it too cynical to take bets on when his SSDI starts getting garnished? I assume that's his income source.

If you don't understand how to use the credit card, don't use the credit card.

Also, watch this video as many times as needed to understand what is being said.

Exactly. Get a job in construction. Deposit the first two checks in the bank. Buy the laptop. No credit card needed.

I donate plasma twice a week and I usually get $60 each donation.

That's $480 a month of spending money.

As a Brit my only reaction to this is...

View attachment 127655

You're paying for a laptop with your literal blood!?
It's a popular way for poor Americans to make some money, I still have a scar on my arm from my time doing the plasma selling bit. You couldn't do it twice a week back then though, I think the limit was 4 times a month.

When you want unfettered capitalism but you don't want social support networks this is what you end up with I guess.

It's almost weirding me out more about how normalised it is rather than the actual process!

Wait until you hear about the guy that turned gay gigolo for sli
That guy was way too comfortable with the change from just going on a (paid) date with someone to straight up sex with a guy for him not to have already been gay.
No judgements.

It's a new credit card. You just use it like you would your other cards.
They are banking on you forgetting to make a payment every month so they can charge you lots of interest and fees!

I pay for my credit card using my debit card sometimes!
My credit card app has a thing where you can just scan your debit card to make a payment!
It is easier to just click the pay button and then let it request payment from your bank though.

Chase customer service said I'll get a bill in the mail and that I can pay off the bill with my debit card.

The person I usually talk to at the chase bank is on vacation and the other staff said they're not trained on how to use the Amazon visa.

Below is what my phone says, I'm just afraid of making a mistake, should I press "place your order"?

I'm afraid it's going to charge me for the whole $2090 and not $174 a month.
