you mean remembering window placement (of my IM conversations)? That problem was induced w/ 2.0 for me. I'm using pidgin now, still does not remember. Friend of mine pointed out the plugin, I just haven't gotten around to it.

No. I heard that it makes you really self conscious and leads to posting half naked pictures of yourself on the internet.

Pidgin sucked when it was GAIM, I doubt it will be any better. GTK had a horrible issue with completely locking up when resizing that made me abhor running GAIM. I switched to Trillian and although Trillian takes time to get used to, I'm happy.

:thumbsup:

You have your fair share of bugs, but Pidgin is one of the better designed programs out there.

I gave it a try.. it seems a little more polished than GAIM... but I still don't like it. It still doesn't support video chats. I'll stick with Trillian Pro.

Does anyone know why it lets you type something when you put yourself from away to available?

You can type an "available message." I just put in "Hi" into that box and then checked my profile and it said "Available Message: Hi."

I did that way before pidgin. Actually they weren't HALF naked before pidgin.

Question: The font that shows up in my window when I'm typing are small...yet if I make them look normal size to me, they look HUGE to the person I'm talking to in their IM window...how do I fix this?

Use the GTK theme control plugin. This will only change the way the font appears to you.

check the boxes and edit the size of everything under "Fonts". Then click the "reread..." button at the bottom.

it worked! I changed the font size for the first two..conversation entry and conversation history. Entry changes it in the dialogue box where you type, and history changes the size in the window during the conversation after you send it. thanks!

I am trying to switch from Trillian.

I got Pidgin to install under Windows XP-SP2 on my desktop (see sig) and my wife's Dell 4150. For some strange reason it won't work on MY 4150. The two Dells are set up pretty much identically. The only three things that goes differently when I installed on my wife's vs. my 4150 are:

1. During install, it does NOT give a language choice on my machine;
2. It seems to try to install Aspell twice on my machine;
3. When I try to reinstall, I get a DOS window asking my if I want to overwrite files.

After it seems to complete the entire install, and whenever thereafter I try to open Pidgin on my 4150, I see nothing as far as activity goes until a few seconds later I get the "do you want to send an error report to MS" message.

Thoughts? Suggestions (other than "take it to another forum")?
