I use Pidgin...the psychic plug-in is very cool =)

the block list is under Tools->Privacy

What's the psychic plugin do?

From the description of the plugin, it opens the chat window from a person that is going to send a message before they actually send it message. It picks up on the fact that they are typing a message.

I can't get it to work 🙁

I've been using GAIM for months. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't remember window positions

Did you have the extra themes installed when you installed Pidgin? Did you exit Pidgin before trying to change the theme? Do you have the Pidgin GTK+ Theme Control plugin checked off in the plugins window?

The main thing is probably having that plugin checked off. I never really experimented though since I like the default theme. Thanks for telling me 2.0.1 was out, I had no idea.

Hm... I think I mixed up my conversations. I have no idea how or if the psychic plugin works. Probably depends if the user on the other end has their typing reporting to the IM server or not.

exactly. it only works on certain friends of mine. not all of em.

Ok got it to work in Xubuntu. Don't see a lot of difference from the last Gaim beta, but its still nice.

As far as I remember, the themes program installed to a directory (on XP) called GTK+ where I can open the Theme Selector. From there, I pick a theme, close Pidgin and reopen it and it will have the newly selected theme.

Correct. And the default install should have made a start menu shortcut for the Theme Selector as well.

It is essentially the same software with a new name, new logo and updated code. They had worked out most of the bugs by beta6.

I moved from GAIM to Pigdin this weekend and, I have to say, I really do enjoy the new look and the name is growing on me. It just gives the appearance of a more polished end product.

i use Pidgin at work (Adium at home) and I like the no ads and simplicity versus AIM 5.5 or 6.0. It feels much faster and seems to take less resources as well. Winner in my book.

No, I use Adium.

Which is powered by the same base code as Pidgin, iirc.

but it doesn't suck 😛 Well, on windows anyway. GTK is terrible in windows, and one key thing that disappeared from gaim... remembering where my freakin windows were. There's a plugin/hack, but still, didn't really find it till recently.

I think that problem's gone away with 2.0. It wouldn't hurt to install and see if that's the case.
