This site is basically going to be an "about me" page with emphasis on his photography

Any webhost with panel software that would go well with that?

I'm not going to suggest a web host, but I would use one that has Fantastico (auto-installer).

I'd then install mambo, and integrate gallery into it. Should give you a good simple and easy to edit site with a photo gallery built in.

dreamhost has its own panel

doesn't have fantastico

but for those who have DH, is it good?

Considering the price, YES.

Let me rephrase it:

is it easy to use for a person who is building their first website? (Well, he probably made geocities sites before, but those are really amateur)

No because:
1) You still have to design your web site using an HTML editor or MS FrontPage. Then you upload it via FTP. Just like any other web host.
2) They do not offer an auto installer like Fantastico or Installatron. Those two tools make things 100x easier.

You can get Fantastico for only $15/yr, seems like a deal to me.

Hmm, I'll tell him that

Meanwhile, I think I'm going to jump on this deal. I'm not so sure though. $10/year isn't really much.

It's fine. Been using dreamhost for the past month without a hitch. I ran into problems with their php when installing coppermine, so I just compiled my own and now it's fine. Can't get a better deal for 10/year

Yes, I've used to host porn, videos, music for a while. Upload/download speed by FTP is very fast, VERY VERY FAST. I couldn't afford it if I had to pay the retail price though. Customer service is quite good. All my questions were answered within 12 hours.

Amol,

If you find the coupon code DreamHost.com offers:
  • FREE Domain for 1 year.
  • 2400MB disk space
  • 120GB bandwidth per month
  • 600 e-mail addresses
  • Unlimited MySQL, PHP, CGI, Jabber and more.
  • No cPanel or DirectAdmin, they use a custom control panel

$9.24 PER YEAR with coupon code.

Don't ask if it's a reliable/reputable web host because WHO GIVES A RATS ASS? It's under $10/yr.

Found the coupon code :)

After a year, it goes to the regular price, right? $10/month?

I dunno good question. My 1 year expires 3/1/2006 I guess I'll find out there.

When it comes to cheap hosting I'm quite satisfied with SonataWeb.net and Telnap.com

You get what you pay for!
The word cheap carries a bad reputation. I prefer to call us affordable.

I kid ... kid. You know who to contact if you have any trouble with your hosting.
