Like me? I mean, i obviously watch TV and in HD, but if im watching a tv show (thats not currently on tv) or movie i either watch it on Blu-ray, or if it's not out, wait until it is on Blu-ray lol. This is one reason why i dont really give a shit about Netflix streaming. Everyone fuckin loves it, but to me the video (even HD) and audio is still not adequate.

I wish the US had a better broadband infrastructure so our speeds would be faster (i think thats how it works, right?) and we could get less compressed movies/shows. Otherwise i doubt all this digital stuff will take off (at least for me it wont heh).

nope. content >resolution.

Justin Beiber Concert in HD or Yojimbo in DVD? Humm, let me think about it while I pop in Yojimbo.

Some movies are better than others in BR and it depends on the TV. I find on my 46-inch can tell the difference and enjoy it, but a well upscaled DVD is acceptable.

I too have Netflix and the reason I got it was to rent BR discs, but I've found lately there isn't much I've been interested in ordering thats new. Now with NF new pricing structure, I may be dropping my disc plan and going streaming only. But I agree, streaming HD isn't all that great - it's only enough to look marginally better than SD broadcasts.

Ive always thought my netflix streaming looked pretty good for what it is. Ive never complained about it before. I own blurays and they look nice on my 100" projector or my KRP-500M but even when i use netflix its not bad enough that i notice really.

I'd watch neither.

I only watch stuff in HD as well, if its up to me.

not just you. i spent a lot of time building my projector home theater setup. Why should I watch anything but the best quality material available on it? I have only watched 2 DVDs in the past year. But that said, if the BRD isnt available, and I really want to watch the movie, I'll watch the DVD version

Netflix HD Streaming is pretty decent.

It's not as pretty as Bluray, but it looks about on par with unconverted DVDs.

Now, non-HD content looks a bit crappy, but .. when it's bad I just sit in my 2nd row of seats. When it's good, I sit in the 1st row in the comfy recliners :)

Exactly. Given a choice I'd go with Yojimbo in blu-ray, but even at low-bitrate streaming it's much more worth watching than most modern films.

And sure, Hobo With a Shotgun looked better in blu-ray, but DVD or streaming would have been fine too.

Like others ill default to bluray if possible. if its not avaliable then i just go for the dvd/sd quality. Do i notice a bit of difference? yeah, but after 10 seconds im over that quality difference

To everyone whos saying things like "content first" and "its all about the content," this is not what im referring to. Sorry if i made it unclear. OBVIOUSLY if blu-ray isnt available (i.e. doesnt exist, anywhere) i'll watch it on DVD, but if a Blu-ray version is available i'm gonna get that.

If it's not presented in 1080i or 1080p, I'm not interested (2 exceptions - Star Wars & Indiana Jones Collections).

Trade in your 65" widescreen flatpanel tv with StrokeVision (TM) for a 20" CRT made in 1986 and I promise you that netflix will look just fine.

It's not just the video resolution. I'd much rather watch an up converted DVD with 5.1 DD sound than the "HD" stream from Netflix in crappy 2 channel stereo.

Of course Blu-Ray has the video and superior audio. Having good audio adds a LOT to the movie watching experience.

gar655 says it all. I'd rather watch movies in BR. With the excellent picture quality paired with the great sound, why would you want anything less? DVDs are fine if there is no BR version as my stuff can upscale and all. I find streaming to be at best, near DVD quality but sound is really lacking. I hate watching movies in 2 channel PCM or matrixed Dolby Prologic II.

You are from Oakville. I understand

Ha ha

Also, I can't stand the tv show rips these days that have horrible audio. Im in it for the quality video and audio. Obviously if something isn't coming out on blu-ray and its good I might still watch it. But I always want at least 720p

I didn't realize how much BR/HD has spoiled me until I fired up Austin Powers on DVD a few weeks ago. I hadn't watched it on my current TV and man it looked bad, probably similar to VHS quality. I guess that's the early days of DVD.....
