I have drank a few times while I've been here, it was okay, I never got drunk. I mostly went to the parties to socialize and have fun.

Like someone else said above, I like hanging out with others at my apartment more, and playing games, and just doing other things. Some people need alcohol to have fun.

Enjoy your herpes and future McJob.

@OP: I'll be graduating in May, and I don't drink. It doesn't really appeal to me. Other people do, I don't have a problem with it.

I graduated first in my class....and I had a lot of fun. If you are smart you don't have to spend all your time studying. If you aren't smart enough you should take a slightly lower grade yet actually enjoy yourself. Learning how to interact with people is as important as getting good grades. I will hire someone with a lower GPA who has a personality and had fun in college before I will hire the 4.0 wallflower. Grades don't mean everything people.

So a person can't interact with other people in college without being drunk and sleeping around? Interesting....

That wasn't my point. My point is there is a lot more to your education than getting a 4.0. Anyone can study 24/7 and get a 4.0 because school just isn't that hard. In the real world that 4.0 doesn't mean much if you don't understand how to deal with people. I would rather have a guy that can actually close the deal with a woman working for me, even if his grades were not as high. I also wouldn't want to hire someone who lived at home while they went to college. Lots of thing are involved in your education besides those grades.

I'm a 2nd semester freshman. Only tasted alcohol once in my life and even if I do take in a beer or 2 before it's over, I'll never get drunk. Too many horror stories from the public schools. That and I know what happens to you biologically. And I have a knack for bio, so I remember it. Every time I think of drinking, it's the equivalent of trying to eat a Big Mac while picturing a tub of lard on your liver. Not so easy to eat it now is it? (Although I did eat an entire king-sized snicker bar right after seeing Supersize Me)

Agreed, I'm just saying there's a lot of middle ground between never going out and getting wasted every weekend and sleeping around. You don't NEED alcohol to make friends.

I know that. I didn't mean to imply that being a drunken idiot was the way to go. I don't even like being drunk. I was always the guy that had to drive everyone home because I had drank the least, or should I say I was the least inebriated. And before you all jump on my ass I went to college in Texas back when drinking WHILE driving was actually legal. I have been pulled over with a beer in my hand and not received a ticket. :D

Ummm...less than ten people in history have gotten a 4.0 from my college.

I would agree, but I would say it's pretty hard to get a 4.0 gpa at a lot of schools, though it's often major dependent.

Well according to your original post it does seem like you were implying that people are basically losers if they don't party with alcohol and etc. No one was saying that studying takes precedence over having fun or anything like that, just if they had fun without the use of alcohol.

Maybe your school is actually decent then. Too much grade inflation and dumbed down schooling these days.

I go to Harvard, which is actually criticized a lot for grade inflation. :p

(A lot of people are surprised that getting a 4.0 here is nearly impossible, but it's because of GPA killer classes like Expository Writing.)

Near the end of my first year. I haven't drank at all. I drank a bit in high school which was an ok experience. The people in college are much more out of control than my old high school friends. Drinking here means getting plastered and the peer pressure is ridiculous. I just steer clear of it.

Nope, I didn't not drink in college. Finishing up my 4th year and I still party hard. When it comes time to party, at least - I'd say I drink at once a week at minimum, and there have been weeks that I've drank every night at least to the point of being buzzed. Obviously, also week/mutliweek time periods where I didn't drink at all .. party when there's time.

Nah, you're better than us.

I drank quite a bit, unfortunately.

I have never drank or been drunk. I took a sip of beer when I was 15 or so and thought it was disgusting.

Never drank a drop here, other than when I was like..5.

Alcoholism runs in my family, I'm on antidepressants, it's expensive, and I can have just as much fun without the negative reprecussions without it.

Like some poster said, it's an excuse for people to do crap they wouldn't normally do, such as cheat on their boyfriend/girlfriend. Personally, I find that disgusting.

Not really. People use drinking as an excuse to cover up their actions; though it also makes it easier for people to do things they normally wouldn't do (lowered inhibitions).

Sure... rub it in. I still have another 5 weeks of class and then a week of finals. I won't be home for the summer until June 9th. Of course, my first day of class Fall Quarter was September 25th.... that's the quarter system for you.

Kinda. I know 1 or 2 people who routinely use it as an excuse for something or other (ie not doing HW). I still don't see the point of getting drunk. If I want stress relief, I'll exercise. If I want to have fun, I can have fun while sober.

It is fun to mess with drunk people on Friday nights though :)

I am about to graduate with my masters and I never drank at all. But at parties I knew how to have fun and rarely slept alone if I didn't want to.
