Anyone here have a fear of heights??

i think all people naturally have some fear of heights, as falling a long ways can definitely impact someone very negatively 🙂, but i mean a real fear of heights??

lately i think i'm developing a fear of heights, it makes me queasy just thinking of looking down from a high point. i think part of the problem is my weight. when i was younger i did repelling, rock climbing etc and never really had a problem with heights.

i think it's probably due to my weight and the thought that i can't control my body as well as i used too. 🙁

I work in contruction, so naturally I'm on scaffolding a lot of the time. I find that recently, I refuse to go up higher than 2 sections. It seems I have developped a small fear of heights. Even if Im on a bucket lift (which is intened to go high safely), it still takes me a few days to get used to it. I never used to be like that.

🙂

ya i said it was my weight, but it is also probably my age, it's not like a fear of heights doesn't make sense.

I continually think to myself....."man, it would hurt like hell to fall....and look at all the stuff I would hit on the way down........" Maybe I gotta quit thinking like that.

It does make sense, but then sometimes it doesn't - there are times as DaTT says, when you know you are perfectly safe, but you just cannot convince yourself...

I know as a kid I wasn't scared of heights till I was about 13, when I went up this lighthouse. Something about that place must have got to me, because for years afterwards I was terrified of heights. Now, just over a decade later, it seems to be getting better for some reason. The whole thing is wierd. 😀

for me in particular it's going up ladders. i dont' have a problem with anything with steps. 🙂 but ladder up the side of my house freaks me out a bit.

I hate driving over the Bay Bridge because of my fear of heights. That's why I hope Maryland gets slots so I don't have to drive my mom over to Dover Delaware to play slots anymore. Why do older people like gambling so much?!?

i do. Dont know when it started, but it affects me now. I'm fine up until the point where there is nothing between me and the edge and im close to it...then its just scary.

I wasn't afraid of heights until I was 10 and I got pushed off of a 20ft cliff by someone. I fell onto the rocks below on broke my top three vertebrae, and developed an extreme fear of heights. Recently, I have overcome that fear.

I do. I'm not afraid of planes or anything that has windows. But I can't look down from the balkony, if it's higher than 3 floor. It's not as much a fear of heights, but rather a fear of losing my balance and falling down.

I guess I'm one of those guys who are not really afraid, but fascinated with heights. Always go stand on the edge of cliffs and stuff... and I HAVE fallen from a tree (about 5 ft.) when I was young.... guess I'm just stoopid 🙂

Not really afraid of heights, but coming down ladders.
I recently was looking at some property and the roofer is inspecting the roof and says, ' come here, you gotta look at this!. So i climb up the ladder and onto the roof (crapping my pants, btw).. I stand paralysed and look around at the mess as he tells me that a new roof would be needed and the joists were probably damaged (or something like that). Then, it's time to go back down...:Q Holy crap.. I spent five minutes trying to get one foot on the step of the ladder not trying to look at the concrete below which was about 2 stories down.. lol. It was icy and snowy.. that's why i was scared. But, i made it in one piece and was proud of myself that day.

i dont have a fear of heights

i do, however, have a fear of being on anything wobbly and high up enough to cause me harm if i were to fall

its not the heights, its the shaking

Ya, I almost died climbing with a couple of friends when I was much younger. But I think it has to be pretty high. When I went to the CN tower, and they had a glass floor where you can walk on, I couldnt walk on top of it... funny, on our way down, the elevator operator told us a single piece could hold 7 hippos.

Hehe...I don't mind driving over any bridge at night...but when I drive over the Bay Bridge, I get in one of the middle lanes (not the one with the metal grating), put both hands on the wheel, and look straight forward until I'm on the other side.

nope, not here.
