I'm completely laptop.

Dell i9400...gaming laptop.

It's less ergonomic, but not a big deal. It is much more expensive though...

hmmmm....... gonna be hard if you game a lot! get a laptop with at least 5 hours of battery!
besides that, its more convenient! use it in bed, in bathroom, in living room, in skool, anywhere!

dont forget to get a wireless mini-mouse.

Saved me tonnes of money going laptop only since I always had the upgrade bug when I had the desktop. It's been about 2yrs now and don't miss that horrible desktop CPU and PS fan blowing 24/7 beside my bed. Nothing beats the sound of silence. Until you run into a woman who just won't shutup.

I've been desktop-less for about a year now. I stopped using it as a primary system for about 3 years, then just parted it out last year to sell it. Although, a quad-core Intel C2Q with 4GB of ram, SLI, and a dell 30" LCD have been coming to mind sometime in the next year. Maybe after I graduate next May/Aug of 2008. I have plenty of time till then. :)

My wife did that. She still has a desk with an external keyboard and mouse for if she'll ever have t be on the laptop for an extended period of time, but usually she just sets up at the dining room table or on the couch. I have both but only use my PC for burning DVDs and such because I have an old laptop that doesn't have any bells or whistles on it.

No. My laptop goes everywhere with me, so I would consider it a huge pain in the ass to have to crawl under my desk and plug it in each and every time I get home.

I also play games, do some 3d animation and Video Editing, and watch movies from my computer, and for that a laptop just isn't comfortable or practical.

My wife has been using a PIII-M (was 933/30GB/256MB until valentine's day, now it's 1.2GHz, 120GB, 512MB) for about 6 years. She needs nothing a higher end video card brings.

I have upgraded my video card/CPU/Memory/Motherboard about 6 times in that time frame.

Yeah, I have a laptop plus a homemade "dock" system. When I get home, I plop my laptop on my clear Griffin iCurve laptop stand, then plug in my 20" widescreen LCD, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc. That way I have access to a bigger screen and all of my peripherals. Go for it!

My HDD drive died on my desktop about 8 months ago. For that time period I went all laptop because I was too lazy to fix it. I finally got fed up yesterday and bought a new HDD, and I will never go all laptop ever again. It sucks.

I only have a laptop -- a Dell Inspiron w/a 17.1" widescreen monitor, but I still have a desk and a chair. Assuming you still write things down by hand and are gonna spend somewhat extended periods of time on the laptop, why wouldn't you want a desk?

What I did doesn't make total sense. I want a laptop that I can toss in a backpack (in a protective sleeve first, of course) and take anywhere everyday and a laptop functioning as a desktop replacement is just too big for that. And at the same time, it'll never have the utility of a desktop.

I spent about $1200 on this at the time, but was in Iraq so the idea of getting a desktop was pretty much just out of the question. If I were here and had to do it over again, I'd spend it this way:

$500 - Barebones laptop w/a 15" monitor or smaller if I could find it that cheap
$699 - Desktop computer that would probably provide the same utility as my $1200 laptop anyway. Also, much more upgradeable. I'll have to all but throw this laptop away in a few years when everything inside it is totally obsolete (in reality, I'll probably give it to a little sibling)
$1 - Lovingly placed in a stripper's thong

Yeah. My setup:

Laptop
Griffin iCurve stand
20.1" widescreen Dell LCD monitor
USB hub
Logitech 2.1 speakers
Logitech VX Revolution wireless mouse
Microsoft wireless ergonomic keyboard
ShuttleXpress input device
500gb backup hard drive
Spare A/C adapter
Cable management system

Takes all of 30 seconds to drop the laptop on the stand and hook it all up :)

Very nice setup :).

I forgot that I also have one of those laptop cooler pads.

With me, I have nearly everything hooked up to the USB hub so when I get home, I just plug in two things -- the USB hub and the headphone plug -- and I'm ready to go :)

[Edit] Oops, three -- gotta have AC power :)

All I have is 14.1 inch laptop. I play games just fine. I really see no need for a desktop.

Thanks! Yeah, USB hub + speakers + VGA + A/C. Not even 30 seconds lol. So tell us more about your projector setup already :D

The keyboard on my MacBook Pro is one of the best that I have ever used.

I also really like the MacBook's keyboard. I just hate that stupid sharp edge on the front :p

Not much to tell. Just your run-of-the-mill Infocus X1. I hear these things sell for $400 now, which is wild considering it was a pretty amazing deal when I got mine for $770 three years ago.

But I don't have cable :)Q) so moving the laptop to the living room is how I watch movies.
