My gf has really sh!tty pots and pans and I wanted to do a really nice mexican dinner tonight so I bought a wok at K-mart. It was on sale for $9 and looked pretty sturdy so I decided to take the plunge.

Let's just say that now that I'm doing the research that these thigns are a hellofa lot more complicated than I originally thought...

Any cooks in here want to share their wok experiences?

I have always had really really good experiences with Martha Stuart cookware. I just make sure I avoid buying cookware with any kind of plastic handling, any wood (although this does have a wood handle) and I'm done buying teflon.

I'm frying everything that's going in the tacos, but its too much for a stupid little frying pan and I've found that the big rounded pieces of cookware are better for this kind of thing...

Use a skillet for that - not a wok

My current culinary goal is to figure out how to cook anything and everything on a George Foreman grill... So, this means no wok. :)

Okay...what are you actually cooking? Just meat? How much freaking meat do you need for tacos?

Technically, this isn't a wok, but it will beat anything else you can find for the price. I have one and use it all the time. The bottom is more flat that a wok, but it does the job on stirfry and thai food at home. :D Good stuff.

woks are generally too heavy, if you buy one you're woman will bitch and moan x2
that is unless you do the cooking.

My woman is the most worthless cook I've ever met. She's also a slob, a compulsive spender, a picky eater and generally not a pleasant person to be around.

If I want a good meal, I cook.

A Wok is meant to be used with very high heat, more than any standard stove can produce. Usually a very high natural gas flame is used, or you can use a propane tank with proper burner.
It's all about the heat, that gets the flavours more unique to wok cooking.

don't worry about all the stuff you read, i don't know why people make such a big deal out of woks like they're some kind of magical thing or something. just cook your food.

I love my wok. It has a nice little adapter for the gas stove i have. just take off the cook top (where you have the pan set while cooking) and put this on. Get on one of the "super burner" and place it in the fire. it gets very hot and does a heck of a job.

to bad its like 9 years old. If i find the same one i will buy it. but it still does the job!

I'm just tired of thinking about anyone else when it comes to my cooking. I put as much TLC into my cooking as I find myself able and I seem to be the only one who can appreciate that. The dinner tonight was fabulous, but she spent so much time screaming as I dumped onions and halepenos into the wok that I really couldn't enjoy the dinner, no matter how much she apologized and tried to back track and tell me she loved the dinner.
