Anyone here do their own tint?

That's pretty cheap 'Square. Is that for all the windows or just the rear glass (5 windows?). I had mine done at a shop a few years ago. Did all 7 windows (lighter on the fronts) for about $160. I got the job done at "cost" though since my cousin has (had?) business ties with him. Just make sure its 3M tint.
The only reason I could think a shop would be better is so that the car won't be in the sun. If I was you, empty the garage and let him tint in there.

the thing about tinting is it is time consuming and its easy to screw up. A couple of my buddies do it for a living and they b!tch about it all the time. One piece of dirt or anything floating around gets in there and you have to redo the whole thing. Pay the money, get a warranty, and move on. This is one time when cheapest isn't best.
 
Go to california tint in Alhambra (626) 2872321. No problems with my tint. and lots of people recommended it at maxima.org IIRC

I got a qoute from here and they said $140 for cheap stuff that fades after 2 years, $180 for stuff that doesn't fade. I'll call again and ask specifically for 3M tint. I glanced through my car and my parent's car and like you mentioned, the sides seem self doable, but that back window would be a freaking bitch to do.

Anyways, thanks to all who left useful replies. I guess I'll arrange for the shop to do it next week, this guy who flaked out isn't getting my business.

 
People always assume 3M's products are the best out there but that isn't always the case. Many say Llumar is better than 3M and that there are others as good as Llumar and better than 3M. There are several good brands of film now. I've always had Llumar applied, and it's never turned purple. See the second tip here.
