Harvard Extension School

Basically it's a continuing ed classes from Harvard. They also have master programs and some courses are even taught by Harvard professors.

The kicker is that there is no admission process so anyone can enroll (just pay up, Harvard loves $$$). You get to network with harvard professors and get a harvard email as well.

See the pay-off is this:
Many many employers just think you went to the 'real' Harvard especially overseas. I guess this is why there are lots of international student at HES. They finish up, put that on the resume and go back to their country and score BIG jobs.

My french roommate did this and went back to France 2 yrs ago. Landed a big job. Another Taiwanese friend of mine with similar story.

Similar can be done in US as well. Not many people heard of the Extension school and employers eat them up once it's on the resume. Even if they know what HES is, do they start to care at that point? You've already landed the interview and well on the way to selling yourself.

Something to share... heard this from GF who went to the 'real' harvard and had to take an extension course once. She said they were all way too snobby, more than the real harvard students. lol.

I've always known about it. You cannot have Financial Aid through that program.

I just think it's funny that people have been, do and will get massive leverage over other people in getting the big jobs just because they went to HES.

Some here in the very States!

A lot of students at my high-school (Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, across the street from Harvard Yard) take extension courses. I'm going to be taking a few courses through HES next year.

How is it deceptive? It's not the applicant's fault if the hirer doesn't know the difference between Harvard and HES.

It's your job to sell yourself without being deceitful. It's employer's job to know WTF it is you're talking about.

Whether you like it or not, thousands of people everyday get good jobs doing this and it's neither immoral or unethical.

I'd go far as to say, it's those who try their best to be different and creative DESERVE their jobs than the typical drones who LIMIT THEMSELVES FIRST because of their 'standard' education.

Yeah roll your eyes at the job seeker because the ones who are hiring can't do their job right?
