I can guarantee you that the acorns are still there the following summer.

Here's a few things i do that work great.
1. Shop vac with panty hose or prefilter over the impeller. Works great but tons of dust and other crap
2. Snapper Hi-Vac rental from local rental place or cheap somewhere at an auction. It works almost as well as a shop vac and really does pick up a lot of crap
3. I lower my lawnboy down to the 1 inch mark since I'm not worried about cutting the grass at this point and hook up the bagger. Make sure you are using a mulch blade since it forces more suction. It pickes up over half of the acorns and chops them up and throws them into the bag. Also works perfectly for leaves, especially with the leaf shredder addon.

If you think that is bad... try having an apple/crabapple tree in your yard. It is awful... they start to decay, hornets and bees are attracted to them... and your dog eats them then vomits
I would love to find a way (easy, quick without cutting the tree down) to take care of them.
I feel for you.

I'm liking these ideas.
1) Don't Shop Vacs already have filters over the impeller?
2) Is that similiar to a Cyclone Rake?
3) What part of the country are you in that doesn't hurt your grass to mow it down an inch?
Thanks!

I've got a leafblower/sucker/bagger that does just fine vacuuming all sorts of crap up. I don't have acorns but I do have those prickly-ball things (can't wait for the comments on that one) from sweet gum (according to google) trees. That thing, for reference, is about 1.25" diameter, hard as hell, and will happily twist the fsk out of your ankle if you step on one wrong.

You use a leaf vacuum to suck the prickly-ball things up? And they are hard? Don't they jam the impeller or does the impeller crush them?

They would certainly jam the impeller if they were given the chance. Honestly, I've never given much thought to how it was built so I can't say that it's designed to keep them out of it, I've just never had the issue, and never *needed* to think about it.

Ride over them with a lawnmower and chop them into nothing.
Have you ever mowed? Do you know how small an acorn is?
