I can guarantee you that the acorns are still there the following summer.

1. Shop vac with panty hose or prefilter over the impeller. Works great but tons of dust and other crap

2. Snapper Hi-Vac rental from local rental place or cheap somewhere at an auction. It works almost as well as a shop vac and really does pick up a lot of crap

3. I lower my lawnboy down to the 1 inch mark since I'm not worried about cutting the grass at this point and hook up the bagger. Make sure you are using a mulch blade since it forces more suction. It pickes up over half of the acorns and chops them up and throws them into the bag. Also works perfectly for leaves, especially with the leaf shredder addon.

I'm liking these ideas.

1) Don't Shop Vacs already have filters over the impeller?

2) Is that similiar to a Cyclone Rake?

3) What part of the country are you in that doesn't hurt your grass to mow it down an inch?

Thanks!

I would love to find a way (easy, quick without cutting the tree down) to take care of them.

I feel for you.

I have 6 apples trees and 3 pear trees.....argh

you can get nets made for fruit trees that hold the fruit. you can probably rig something up to gather them into a box below the tree

1. my shop vac had a foam filter but the panty hose over the foam filter acted like a prefilter and worked better

2. not sure

3. Lawrence, Kansas. It's not thick right now and its either the acorns killing the grass and leeching acid all over everything. Its fall here, the grass is dying off. I'll take a pic in a day or so before and after and what i use to suck it up and you will be amazed.

We used to...it seems like there's no more acorns in the past few years. I used to just enjoy pulling them out as they began to root.

Worse than acorns, I have to deal with the fruits from all the ornamental pear street trees. Seems my neighborhood association standardized on a non-seedless variety of tree. Every fall those things make a horrible mess. Worse than acorns because they're squishy. Have to pressure-wash the sidewalk at least once a week plus can't walk in that part of the yard without getting them all over the soles of my shoes. Leaf vacuum doesn't work either...well, it works for a few seconds but then the resulting goo kinda clogs the impeller.

I've got a leafblower/sucker/bagger that does just fine vacuuming all sorts of crap up. I don't have acorns but I do have those prickly-ball things (can't wait for the comments on that one) from sweet gum (according to google) trees. That thing, for reference, is about 1.25" diameter, hard as hell, and will happily twist the fsk out of your ankle if you step on one wrong.

You use a leaf vacuum to suck the prickly-ball things up? And they are hard? Don't they jam the impeller or does the impeller crush them?

I've got a pretty big oak in my front yard, what's the benefit of picking up the acorns?

My cousin is renting a house near his college campus, has an apple tree that produces pretty good sized apples, but not that tasty. I think he called them june apples. Luckily, homeless people come and pick them or carry off the ones on the ground.

They would certainly jam the impeller if they were given the chance. Honestly, I've never given much thought to how it was built so I can't say that it's designed to keep them out of it, I've just never had the issue, and never *needed* to think about it.

Can you tell me which brand/model of leaf blower/vacuum you use? That is definitely the one I need to be using. Thanks!

Anyone ever heard of a leaf blower/vacuum that wouldn't get ruined by sucking acorns through it?

Isn't there some kind of vacuum thingy you can get for a riding mower that'll suck up grass clippings? Maybe it can also deal with acorns.

Ride over them with a lawnmower and chop them into nothing.

Have you ever mowed? Do you know how small an acorn is?

I've got a mower with a five foot deck. That sucker will pick 'em up off the ground and chop them almost into dust. I have an oak tree in my yard that easily drops over a ton of acorns every year and that's how I deal with them. And yes, it is a big a$$ tree with a trunk circumference of over 18 feet.
