Freaky...I was just doing some shopping the other day. I like the designs of Montblanc and Dunhill, but I don't know if I quite have the funds to buy something like that right now. stuff like what you see at luxuryhaven.com

I've been using the same leather wallet for about 5 years now, still holding up great and the outside leather is still glossy, but the edges are worn.
I really don't think you get much more utility out of $200 wallet, you won't use it for decades because your taste might change.

Yup.(

It's the male equivalent of a LV purse. It's not the quality or functionality that matters so much as being a conspicuous symbol of wealth.

But it's his money to waste...

My gf (wife now) bought me a Louis Vuitton wallet for about $300 about 5 years ago. I got mad at her for buying such an expensive wallet but couldn't argue long since it was a gift. I'm still using it now but I'm sure a <$50 wallet would have done the same thing. Here are some pics of it that I just took:

Except you don't stuff designer handbags into your back pocket. At least people other than your buttcheek SEE that designer handbag.

I had a Coach one for several years, great wallet and held up perfectly. My Wife bought me a LV one at the LV store in Paris while on a business trip a few years back, it also has held up prefectly and is just the right size. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Whatever you do, don't buy on eBay - 99% are just cheap fakes (the real ones have "made in Spain" stamped, not embossed, inside.)

I believe a wallet should not cost more than the amount of money I'm going to carry around in it. I usually have around $30 on me, so that's my limit.

Well it doesnt make it better. But I feel like a wallet says a lot about a person, and I plan on using this wallet for years (Decades) to come. Its something I use(Wear) every day, and I feel like a 200 dollar investment on a wallet I will use for the next 5-10 years if fine by me.

It equals out to pennies a day for a nice, classy wallet when you think about it.

Saying an object "says a lot about a person" when it spends 99% of its time out of sight from people is absurd. What are you going to do, wave it around when you buy something at Walmart so the 50 year old cashier can think more highly of you? Not saying you can't spend $200 on a wallet if you want to, but the difference between a $30 full grain leather wallet and a $200 designer wallet is minimal.

What can a wallet possibly say about a person?

Spend $25 on the wallet. And then use the other $175 to sponsor a starving child. I think that would say a lot more about you as a person.

You first. :disgust:

Okay. Seriously. If you are willing to sponsor a kid, so will I. :) It is a really good way to help someone out that needs it.

I wonder if we could ever discuss an article of clothing and not end up where we are now...at which point I'd throw out the typical $300 video card comment, of which you'll use maybe 2-3 years. If he wants to spend that much on a wallet, what's the big deal. The difference between the Montblanc I liked and a similar design at Coach was evident, and you're not going to find that design or craftsmanship at Target, I'm sorry.

No, I haven't...I kept my first wallet until I lost it (still in good shape at the time), then I bought a new one. That was in high school, and I'm still using it.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but I don't see the point of spending ten times the money for something that you only look at for a couple minutes a day.

Hey spend your money however you want. But, if you still rent an apartment, and have a lot of debt, all a $200 wallet says about you is "I don't know how to manage my money."

I won't spend $300 on a Video Card though either.

But I guess I see your point. Whatever you value more, you will spend more on.

Meh..., Buy the wallet if it makes you happy. The offer still stand though. I think the last time I checked it is $25-40 a month for some of the groups out there. Which isn't that bad in the big scheme of things. I could always not do it though, and when I get married, go for adoption. I know someone that does that and I have witnessed how rewarding it is.

I dont see how a $300 video card vs a $10-$25 videocard relates to $200 vs $25 wallets....a $300 video card does things faster, produces better resolutions, etc than a $10 video card. a $200 wallet does nothing better than a $10 wallet except look better. I'll give the look better thing some priority but for $200 i expect the dang thing to massage my ass while its back there or something.

video card at higher price pays for function, features, and power though. wallet is just fancy leather.

Im 21, in college, and I am gonna graduate with a degree in economics in 1.5 years.

I currently do not pay for college or rent, my parents help me out with that.

I make 15/hr and work around 24 hours a week.

So no debt, and I just got the raise to 15 an hour. I manage my money well, and I just recently left my spring break in vegas with extra money after winning $250 on roulette there.

So basically i will be spending money that I thought I was going to spend when i was in vegas over spring break

I know I will get lots of people telling me to save and whatever, or that I am not financially responsible. I didnt make this thread to have a bunch of cheap ass computer nerds tell me that im an idiot.

I came here to ask the stylish computer nerds that care about the way they look what kind of wallet I can find for that price.

Ah hell maybe I should go ask my girlfriend...you guys suck (Except for evilyoda and others who have actually given me advice on a wallet, which is what I originally made this thread for)

No it's not. A purse is carried on the outside a wallet is something you sit on. A better equivalent to a purse for a man would be a briefcase.

its just a matter of taste. if you can afford it then, why not.

That's a logic I can't agree with. It's an inefficient use of resources to buy name brand / designer stuff. You can buy very nice stuff that isn't artificially inflated 5x to pay for an image.

I've always been really glad I don't need to have that image. Gonna make my life a lot easier.. and probably more satisfying. Sure, I'll pay more for something really good, but I won't pay more because it's what whatever crackpot/hotshot celebrity of the day is toting around.

This is a better argument - if you are buying something to last, it's a good idea to buy something that's handcrafted and well made. Designer brand doesn't necessarily mean well-made - be mindful.

But if I were to spend $300 on a video card, I would be able to play Oblivion at my monitor's native resolution and it would be much quicker to respond and provide a more satisfying gaming experience. That's a lot of hours of greater satisfaction I could get out of that purchase.

Sufficient to justify the expenditure though? That's a more difficult question..
