Anyone have a Motorola Q?

My wife's Verizon plan is coming up in April and she is thinking about getting a Motorola Q. She is mainly interested in the calendar feature. Anyone have one and care to share experiences? I've never had a smart phone before.

We joke that the Q is for "quirks." For all of the things I love about mine:

Wireless ActivSync with my agency's Exchange server
+ Decent screen size
+ Small and thin
+ Easy to tweak/modify

There are just as many things I absolutely hate about it:
- Windows Mobile 5 OS
- Random lockups and restarts
- Keypad kinda sucks

I suggest everythingq.com and qusers.com for more information. I use the calendar feature extensively, not just for work, but to plan everything else, everything from reminding myself to puchase concert tickets to meeting with my real estate agent. The battery life is HORRIBLE. Everyone buys one of the extended batteries, which are actually really cheap. If you have any specific questions about the phone, feel free to PM me. The Verizon EV-DO network is great though. They are upgrading it (supposed to be 4x faster) now in certain areas.

i just got this phone via SERO on the sprint network. I've only had it for 2 days, but it's been working well so far. I would check out the sites above that Suture recommended. Lots of tricks/hacks there. I had Windows Mobile 2003 previously, so I'm used to the interface.

A phone like the Q might be a bit of an overkill just for the calendar feature...

Well, for Google Maps, email, etc. She has a pink Razr that she really likes right now and is attracted to the slim form factor of the Q.

My wife has the Q. The battery life sucked until she changed the sychronize setting. I think it checking every 1 sec. She switched to 1 hour and now the battery lasts for 3 days on the normal battery. It used to be less then one day with the extended (which died after 2 weeks).

I use one for work, i like it alot, does everything i need, only thing i do not like is the lack of a keyboard lock. When inserting it or removing it, or just moving around with the carrying case it alot of times start to dial and make calls with accidental button hits, so bad that i dont use the case anymore. but that is the only issue i have with the device.

the keyboard on it sucks, but overall is a decent phone. There are many models out that can do the calendar feature. Take a look around on phonescoop.com.

That available from Verizon? I'm not seeing it on their Blackberry page.

What's wrong with the keyboard, hard to type on or something?

The Q is a joke - no touch screen and a stripped down version of windows mobile. Get the treo 700wx - includes a much more powerful windows mobile and it has a touch screen which makes google maps friggin awesome. I hated the smartphone version of windows mobile, but the treo has the pocket pc version which is fantastic.

Is the EVDO a seperate service, and can you tether it to your laptop? (legally)

Almost sounds worth it to wait for the iPhone, lol. And man, all the cool smart phones aren't at Verizon :(

I'm kind of interested in one now, too :) We have seperate accounts, but both of our accounts are up in April. I was planning on a KRZR, but it might be nice to have the additional features of a smart phone (Google Maps, calendar, email, finances, etc.). The iPhone looks pretty neat but I don't buy first generation hardware, especially from Apple. The Q looks good because it's slim...I like to keep my phone in my front pocket.

I've been demoing the Blackberry 8703e, Motorola Q, and the Treo 700w for the past few weeks and I finally settled on the Blackberry. I find that the interface is the easiest to use of the three, the battery life is better, the signal is better, and it doesn't lockup or crash. I had to pull the battery from the Q I used several times a day, the Treo only needed it a couple of times in the ~2 weeks I had it. I didn't like the keyboard on the Q, the Treo was better, but the Blackberry is the best. In my personal opinion, the Q is junk and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. The Treo is much more serviceable but I'd definitely put the Blackberry at the top. I can't deal with my phone crashing and I know I'd hear back from the CEO if his phone crashed.

In major metro areas you'll hop on an EVDO network automatically. There is no extra charge. I know you can tether a Blackberry to a laptop and I believe you can with the Q and the Treo but it costs $15/mo if you've got unlimited data and a voice plan.

I would honestly look at the Treo 700w or 700p.

The difference between the two is that the W is windows mobile while the P is palm software. Palm software has less to offer and is fast. The windows mobile can do many things, but it is slow as balls if you ask me. I program these every day :x (that includes the Q)

also, if you want the most stable phone and the one that has the best reception hands down...

that is the LG VX8300. I personally have the chocolate and i hate it because of reception, call quality, etc.
