Your LightScribe-enabled CD/DVD disc drive contains a special laser that pumps light energy into a thin dye coating on the label side of the disc.

How did you expect it to work? Toner carts. would be mighty cramped in a 5.25" drive![]()

I expected it to work on blank DVDs that didn't have any manufacturer's printed labels on them![]()

How exactly did you think the ink would get on the disc? Magic?
yeah, but since the label was on the data side, if you filled up the cd you wouldn't be able to burn a label. with lightscribe, the data are burned on the data side and the label is burned on the label sideOriginally posted by: Anonemous
Didn't yamaha have one of these before (even though it wrote it on the data side of the disc)?

I was under the impression that it used a laser to "etch" the image on the disk![]()

I just use an Epson R200, which is an inkjet printer that can also print on white or silver printable CD/DVD discs. Price is about the same for blank discs as regular discs.
Pros--------------------------------------------- Cons
Professional results------------------------------- Extremely slow process
Permanent scratch- resistant bond-------------- Special expensive media required
Eliminates recurring ink cost -------------------- Media availability

I have a Yamaha Burner that can do this. On some CD-R brands you can see it clearly, on others the etching is almost invisible. Don't use it that much though since i mostly have CDs where it doesn't show up.
