Wow, check out those stones... :Q

What kind of abuse did that kidney see, do you know? It looks pretty wrecked.

Right kidney opened to reveal the stones and area of hemorrhage and near perforation of the cortex.

Google was my friend😉

Well... just got back from the ER and I'm still in pain. I had a Cat Scan and all that fun stuff, urinalysis, blood work and 2 IVs pumped through me. The result? They can't confirm or deny the kidney stones as being the cause of my pain. He said it could be the early stages of one or that I already passed it and was feeling the side effects and/or that the scan couldn't pick it up. The other lovely thing that the Cat Scan showed was that my appendix was "in the very upper limits of size in what we consider normal" so basically he said it could be a kidney stone or developing appendicitis. He couldn't find an abscess or hemorrhage on the scan, so he said that I'll know soon if it is appendicitis. They wanted me to come back if the pain increased or if I started running a fever. He was so worried about the possibility of appendicitis that he told me to not take anything stronger than tylenol/ibuprofen(because something stronger could mask the pain), but if the pain became unmanageable to come back because then they will do another scan and see if it is appendicitis or the kidney stone. The other thing he thought it could be was muscle strain/tear, but he said it was not very consistent with my symptoms or scan.

So in the end -- I got some IVs and crap -- and I still don't know what the deal is. Super nice doctors, but sometimes you can't just rule everything out and be specific.

That sucks Mill. Good luck man. I had a pain like yours and they couldn't diagnose me either. Based on the symptoms, i think it was a small kidney stone. Hurt like a bitch though.

Sorry to hear that!

Edit: Hopefully it turns out to be something rather simple. Here's to hoping you get better soon.

Sorry to hear it Mill. Want me to come over and kick you in the crotch so you forget about your kidneys? 🙂 Get better!

Had it at 21. Caused by overdoing the vitamin C supplements. I wanted to die. Aside from the searing pain, peeing blood is not a good thing to experience.

Told ya to drink water and wait.

Passed at least 2(maybe as many as 4) in the last year. Emergency room twice...absolutely awful. After they analyzed them, they determined they were caused by too much protein in my diet. I think back to when it started and it was shortly after I went on my protein shake regimen.

I have a somewhat funny/smartass urologist who refers to my passing of stones as labor for men; except labor comes in waves and stones pain doesn't stop until they pass or until you're doped to the gills. Isn't he just fvcking hilarious...:disgust:

My Kidney stone went from feeling like someone punched me in the kidneys to feeling like I had been stabbed in the back and someone was turning the knife in about 15min (Radiating waves of some of the most intense, sharp pain I have ever felt). I have since had discussions with females that have had stones and kids and they say the kidney stones are more painful.

I've had stones, worst pain I've had aside from broken bones, took me to my knees. did the lithotrypsy & have always made sure to drink enough water since then.

Simple test for appendicitis, stand on a stool & jump off, if the pain is significantly worse when you land, it's prob your appendix.

Kidney stone pain tends to radiate to one testicle or another, not both, and it correlates with the side of the body the stone is on.

I have had kidney stones and they hurt worse than anything else I have ever experienced. Bad enough where I had to be driven to the ER.

I've had 9 kidney stones the past 20 years (I started getting them when I was 17).

My symptoms:

1) An incredibly sharp pain in my lower back (the pain never ends, but it does increase). I'm talking about more pain than you've ever had in your life. One time I had a REALLY bad stone and they couldn't give me enough pain killers to make the pain go away. All they could do was make me high as a kite so that I didn't care about the pain as much. This can last for 2-3 days.

2) Sometimes you feel like you REALLY have to piss, but you don't/can't (imaging having that feeling for HOURS at time).

3) Towards the end, some of the pain moves to my testicles.

4) Blood in my urine.

5) The overwhelming desire for some kind stranger to put a gun to your head and put you out of your misery.

Feels like you'd rather burn to death. It's unavoidable, unimaginable pain that you can do nothing about. You basically scream and roll around suffering helplessly in pain until the stone has passed. My gf's little brother passed out twice due to the pain on two separate ocassions.

Yup. That about sums it up.

Next time the wife brings up the x hours she spent in labor with the kids, you can bring up the y days you spent in similar or worse pain. 🙂

My father had kidney stones a while back. I wasn't there the day that he had to pass them but when he did the pain was so bad he went to the emergency room to see what was wrong, in fact he was almost delirious and threw up along the way. They pumped him full of morphine and things were better from there 🙂
