Anyone had any Western Digital HDDs go wacko?

Mine now makes this really ANNOYING high pitched whine. I've had it for almost a year now, and don't see why this just cropped up. I'm afraid to turn it on now 😱

i've had that happen, expect a lot of bad sectors to appear because the heads of your hd are scratching the platters. take that sucka back.

😱 I threw away the receipt from Best Buy. I don't know if they'll take it. It's not like i have the original packaging anyhow. I'm contacting WD. They were closed today when I called, so i'll try again tomorrow. I still don't see why this would happen all of a sudden? 😕

Did you pay with a credit card? If yes, call your CC company and have them send you the summary from the month you bought it (if you don't already have it).

Oh, I have the CC summary and what not. I threw away the receipt because I figured it wasn't going to break or anything since I had had it for a few months at that point in time.

This caused yours to make a jakked up noise? I haven't been inside my box for weeks, so that doesn't make any sense at all. I guess I'll have to PM you then, mday.
