Either you have to have a bit of toe or heel off the board? dammit that makes some of the balancing and yoga stuff difficult, if i have my heel all the way on i have to grip the front w/ my toes, if I have my toes completely on my heel hangs off just a bit.
guess I'll just have to do it in shoes, which makes some of the yoga positions uncomfortable
Yeah I've got 13s and they stick off a bit, but I'm getting used to it. The bigger problem for me is that my ceiling is only 9 feet and I'm 6'2", so I simply cant properly do the yoga poses that require you to stretch your arms all the way up.
But yeah, theres no question its a workout - just went at it for a total of 60 mins and I'm definitely sweating.
The yoga poses are excellent and you definitely feel the stretch and burn on some of them, but again, theyre a little difficult for me to do in my place. Its also somewhat difficult to tell if youre doing it properly when youre unable to look at the screen while you do it.
The strength training obviously works as well, but the balance board can do only so much. Just like with the yoga, it really helps if theres someone else there to help you get the form right, but it does a fairly decent job. I'm also pretty broad shouldered, and the board just doesnt feel wide enough for me to do a proper pushup.
The aerobics are interesting - if youre hula hooping and running in place like mad you definitely build up a sweat, but running in place just doesnt feel right. The beginner step also isnt nearly fast enough to get you sweating, but I havent tried the advanced step yet. Still though, running in place is better than nothing at all.
The balance games are kinda fun, but theyre not much of a workout. Much better as a cooldown.
Overall it definitely works as advertised, but most of the beginner stuff is a little too easy. Thats not entirely unexpected as I'm not completely out of shape. It has to be one size fits all to start - I had no problem with the pushups but my girl couldnt do one proper set. I'm sure once I unlock more reps on the strength training it'll be far more valuable.
I wish it had a few less menus, and that youd be able to control it entirely with the balance board - its a bit annoying to have to keep picking up and putting down the wiimote. It would also have been a nice touch if you could program in a predetermined workout routine - theres a lot of button pressing involved between excercises that I could do without.
Still though, I think the most valuable thing will be the way it charts your BMI/weight change over time. In my mind its video game like any other, if I dont see that graph slope down then I'm not winning the game, and thats my motivation.
Like any other nintendo product its polished to an extreme, but I'm sure the clones are already in production. Maybe someone else will create an even more hardcore workout game, but I doubt itll have the same fit and finish. But its a really unique product, and I totally dig it.
