I think the question is valid. Before you question his logic, consider how safe you would feel about taking a trip to the middle of Harlem, for instance. Granted, it is known to be a predominantly poor and unsafe neighborhood to begin with. But I am sure you have something else to worry about if you were white.

Some of you may have not been exposed to racism as much as others. I had tons of it as I grew up, with an entire school body mocking me and random people on the streets giving me unrestrained display of hatred. No, that was not in the US. To be realistic, I doubt it gets anywhere nearly as bad in the PC america. Still, I stand by my opinion you dont know how it feels unless you been there.

There are probably more minorities who live in sprinfield than whites. If you think the KKK have lynched anyone since the late 60s in the united states you are extremely deluded. Yes springfield itself may be but there are huge oceanic communities in several cities around it like neosho. In fact just the past month one of those islanders went into a church, shot several people, and shot himself. So if anything I think the minorities are more dangerous to the whites then the whites to the minorities in that area..

Ok the last lynching happened in 1981 in ALABAMA. A far cry from Arkansas and Missouri two of the most liberal, democratic, and originally abolitionist states in the south. That lynching happened after months of built up tension between black and white community after a black man was taken to trial for killing a white police officer. The trial against the people who did it was a multimillion dollar affair that bankrupted the KKK. Since then the KKK groups that have sprung up might be racist but they're not exactly lynching people. Most of the New KKK are against lynching. They just teach white power and hold there own inbred beleives of how mixing of races is wrong. Frankly there are more blacks in most of the south that is famous for lynchings and racism than anywhere else and if anything theres more solidarity there.


Racism in Springfield would be inane. The area there is part of a giant growing metro that involves Tulsa and Northwest arkansas. It could easily become the next New York. Its a very rich area. If anything youll get snottism from the rich elite. Not racism.

From what I gather, that yes, racism is still big, especially in the South. I've never had to deal with racism, ever. Just moved back north after spending 4 years in the dirty south, you have been fed a bunch of poo apparently. I found race relations in much better shape down south than in most northern industrial areas. You might get called a Yankee and they will not be joking, but you will not have any problems otherwise.

Be prepared for strangers of all races to make eye contact and say hello, for children to address you with respect, and try to "slow down" if you can. Everything in the south moves 3 days behind the speed of life. Drove me fucking nuts when I first moved there, now I miss that attitude.

Well that's just plain thinking straight. I mean, it's obvious that Dallas, as one of the top10 largest cities, is completely rascist. I heard from the internet that there are only 5 black people in Dallas and that everyone makes fun of them. I also heard that what EVERYONE is Dallas hates more than anything else is someone who is half Filipino. It's the truth, I heard it on the interweb!!!

Your conclusions and fears based on the info you have gathered are wrong. There is no magical evil place in the US where you need to fear for your life simply because of your race. Hate crimes happen everywhere in the US in the same ways for the same reasons. The only major differences you will find will be between large cities and small towns simply because more crime happens in large cities. Even then, it shouldn't hold any weight over your decision in this matter. Go visit your friend and try not to worry so much. Living your life in fear because of your race is dumb and wasteful.
