in general, for being one of the oldest schools in the nation, pittsburgh still has a pretty poor reputation as an elite academic school. their undergraduate program is unremarkable, and their undergrads in my dealings never struck me as intelligent or really very thoughtful. possibly because carnegie mellon is down the street and the general tone there is much more academic and research oriented and IMHO the students study harder. for undergrad, i think pitt's a pretty standard state school which really should be much better than it is now for how long they've been around, but i'm sure they have some particular graduate programs which stand out which may or may not include information science. i do know the weather sucked there, but i'm a southern california native.
That sounds a lot like where I go now (University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh). Their graduate program is ranked well (I think #8 in the country), but it is hard to tell (there are only ~40 accredited colleges and a low number of graduates).
Apparently they do not teach capitalization.
