Anyone ever use plastic brake caliper covers?

I'm looking to do some cheap mods to my car, and some caliper covers would look snazzy. I see a lot of people selling ABS plastic covers now---brakes can heat up to several hundred degrees, it it seems like these would melt? Yet the manufacturers are all guaranteeing "Will not melt."

Anyone have any experience with these? Could cleaning/painting my existing calipers be a better (albeit bigger pain in the ass) solution?

Painting them would be a better route but I think the time/effort could be better spent elsewhere.

Are you fucking kigding me? Fake Brembos and the likes?

I didn't want ones with branding on them, just a solid color, and they look easier than painting. However, metal ones are like $200---for that money I'd just get new calipers :D

A more useless mod I've never seen.

Just get real Brembos and be done with it.

LOL- that's a $4000 set of brakes you're showing there!

I just like the way caliper covers look. This is what my car would look like with them:

Nah, they came stock on my bike. I can assure you they did not cost $4000.

They work really well though. :p

But yea just buy some engine high temp paint, unbolt caliper, paint, and be done with it.

I pulled it out of my ass as a way of saying I don't want to upgrade my brake system :)

Anyway, I'm thinking the paint is the way to go too. Oh well. I need to change my ball joints anyway. Might as well do it while I'm in there.

Wtf! Stop being a tool!

I saw a car recently where the person who owned the car had painted the rear drums a bright red. Don't be an idiot. Just stick with the stock color. It'll hold more value over time.

I painted my steel calipers which require a lot more work. I'm guessing you have a newer car so yours should be aluminum and much easier than mine.

Also like I said before don’t buy caliper paint; just use high temp engine paint. Same stuff just cheaper and more color options. You can get it at most part stores and use code P20 at advanceautoparts website for pickup and save 20%.

The stock color is greyish rust.

If you want to be cheap, buy some used OEM take off Brembos from many factory cars and machine /buy the knuckle bracket. Evos, STis, Mustangs, Vs, Vettes, source of cheap abundant decent brake upgrades that don't cost $4000.

If the plastic covers look good to you, get them. Who cares what everyone else thinks, it's your car and your money.
