ABS can be made to stand high temperatures, and there are heat guns made of ABS.

What did you pay for those?

I was just being an ass. The Brembos set me back $72k or whatever the cost of the car was.

Personally, if you have rusty calipers, I'd paint them black or silver and be done with it. The only "cool" thing IMO is changing the color from silver to gold from track use. That is the only thing that shows you use the brakes for more than driving around.

I painted my calipers a flat grey, just like how they look from factory on my previous car. Except they didn't show rust, unlike the factory.
And who gives damn about what Trident thinks?

LOL- that's all I want to do. I don't want to make them lime green or anything. I just saw that they make ABS plastic covers now that are cheap, so I was wondering if they actually melt.

Wtf! Stop being a tool!

I saw a car recently where the person who owned the car had painted the rear drums a bright red. Don't be an idiot. Just stick with the stock color. It'll hold more value over time.

:(

Paint em if you want to. And don't feel bad doing it. It doubt it'll affect value to the average buyer if its done well and looks good. That is, as long as its not drum brakes... there is no reason to call attention to drum brakes.
I painted mine and dont regret it... but then again, my car is meant to look like a piece of shit.

LOL- that's a $4000 set of brakes you're showing there!

I just like the way caliper covers look. This is what my car would look like with them:

I remember seeing many Hopped up Street Cars, would not call them Muscle Cars, that would be an insult to Real Muscle Cars, however, in Quebec, or French people would "Soup-Up" there Chevy Chevette by Lift kits on the rear, and Mag Tires, Center-Line Rims Racing Stripes Stickers, fuzzy Dice, etc..etc.. and man those cars were eye sores, not to mention not even really "Souped-Up" but just made to look like crap when all is said and done... Dummies

Plastic brake covers are for women or morons.
- They collect dust
- They cause extra heat
- They can cause brake fade (get you killed)
- waste of money
- Anyone that knows anything about cars will think you are a phony and moron
- etc etc

yes go buy them.

I'd paint brake drums if I had a vehicle with them plus wheels that exposed them enough, but I'd just go for dark gray or black stove paint, not something fruity colored, and only new drums before I put them on, not spending the time on some ancient pair that had a dozen+ years wear on them already.

I've never had plastic covers, do they interfere with checking pad thickness w/o taking the wheel off? I wouldn't want to have to take the wheel off just to do that.

The upper end Harley's have them as well, V-Rods have had them for years. I expect to see them on pocket bikes in the near future.

Brembo's tend to be on more expensive higher margin bikes which makes me think you're looking at bikes in the $11k+ area. There are just a few bikes costing less than $10-11k that have Brembo on them instead of Nissin or Tokico.

You have a fairly low post count for someone who's been here 8 years. If you're going to post stuff like the above, I hope it stays that way.

Not sure any of that is actually true but I do think they're a waste of money and I'd never put them on any car I own.

Now I know why brake caliper covers keep coming up under my wife's Amazon searches.

Anyway, since then, the repaint of my calipers looked fantastic! They started gunmetal, but turned to an ashy black.
