Anyone ever have buyer's remorse?

Long story short, I bought a brand new Focus ST because I wanted more power than my MKV VW Golf had. I paid off the ST in just a few months.

The more I own this car, the less I like it. It's a fun car with absolutely nothing wrong with it other than the fact I'm an idiot for not doing more research before spending my money. My issues with the car could probably be considered trivial but I do know that I don't want to own it long term any longer.

In another stupid move I went and test drove an Audi Q5 TDI and felt what I was missing in my current car. Pretty much a night and day difference.

Anyone here buy a new car and had regrets? Fool and his money blah blah something.

It happens. If I remember right there's a guy here that bought a Challenger and went back a few days later to get a V8 or SRT or something.

I've never bought a new car but no buyers remorse with second hand cars. I've only owned 3 though.

To be fair, the ST starts nearly $16000 less than the Q5 TDI.

But I've never had regrets buying a car.

All the time. Bought a blue Mazda 3 hatch on an overcast day and it looked cool, but on a sunny day it was just too damn bright. Bought a Challenger V6, and as soon as I drove it off the lot I regretted not getting a V8. Correcting that mistake cost me $3k over the list price of the RT I ended up getting.

And shortly after getting the RT, I started to hate it because I bought it in black, and it shows every frickin scratch. I dont even wash it anymore because I dont want more scratches. Pretty much every new car I buy I regret buying, but not so much with used ones.

The GTI and the ST were my picks. I was coming from a Golf and wanted something different. The ST was praised a lot more when being compared to the MK6 GTI on most specs so I went with it.

I probably would've not had these issues had I just bought the GTI instead. I can either wait for the MK7 which is supposedly pretty good or get my "faux luxury SUV", that I actually like a lot or...just keep the ST.

First world problems for sure.

i'm on my third car in 3 years. before that I had one for nearly 10.

1st) car 2001 Pontiac sunfire 2.2 auto ~10 years
2nd) 2008 vw rabbit 2.5l auto. 2.5 years (purchase)
3rd) 2012 regal gs - manual . (1.5 years, lease, ended early)
4th) 2013 cmax energy, auto (currently 6 months into lease, only 24months)

I got bored with the rabbit, but I think I went to cheap on buying it, I still miss the overall golf body, fit, seats. Should have went with a GTI

regal gs - kind of fast, but IDK never really clicked. Way to big a car for just me and the wife, and she couldn't drive.

I think what really didn't work, was that it was in the dealer every 2 months. And I finally just gave up on it.

Cmax - liking the car so far for what I use it for. no gas to get to work is nice on cold days (I only live a mile away, and normally walk, but this winter got old, and sucked)


Already thinking about my next car, but none are out right now, most will be new this year, So hopefully I can get the 2nd model year.

2015 mustang, I hope this has a telescoping steering wheel. I could see owning the 5.0 for a long time.

I live in an apt, so I dont cant really do it myself. My work has a detail service that comes around in the summer, and they put scratches in the paint. So did the dealership when they washed it for me. Every so often I will go to a do it yourself car wash and just hit it with the sprayer to get all the dirt off, but thats it. I should have went with a low maintenance car until I buy a place with a garage.

I feel that way with my 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T. Nice car, no doubt, but we sold our fully paid for 2007 Toyota Camry LE with 60k miles on it to replace with the Sonata and as I look back I'd rather have the Camry back along with the $17,000 difference between what we sold it for and paid for the Sonata plus taxes.

The Sonata gets OK mileage, does have way more power behind it, and has more luxury features than the Camry but the Sonata has some annoyances like an inability to play music with bass without all the door controls rattling like crazy and the stealership being unwilling to do anything about it.

Only on the one new car i bought.. that huge chunk of money you lose driving it off the lot, will regret how wasteful it was. Now I just find one with 10-20,000 on it, surprising how many there are, don't eat that 20-40% loss and feel better. But ya.. on a car. Wanted a vette my entire young life, finally bought one with a manual, I regret it, wish i had got an auto. yes that manual is damn fun when you want to "drive" but 95% of the time I'm just out to enjoy it, top down.. and shifting non stop gets old really quick. Do it over, it would be an auto for sure. Thankfully I'm a car nut and have several cars to drive for "fun" so i don't get to annoyed with it.

Good call though! Non V8 Challengers shouldn't be built! lol I bought an RT and a couple years later *slightly* regret that I didn't get the SRT. I have to keep telling myself it's ok, I don't need more hp, plus it has a lifetime warranty

I wouldn't exactly call it buyer's remorse but I still regret trading in my 2000 Contour SVT on a 2006 Subau Legacy GT Wagon. I bought my first new car in 1970, Cutlass 442 but that Contour was MY all time favorite car.

When my 89 caravan finally crapped out on me after 12 years I got tired of looking for another cheap beater when an 03 pontiac vibe popped up on craigslist 1//2 mile from my house for really cheap. On paper it was perfect other than being an automatic bleh so I bough it. It did everything it needed to do and ran and road fine but it had no personality, toyota . Ended up selling it for a profit after a year and bought my 04 jetta wagan TDI for a great price but it is also an auto bleh and the interest in owning a diesel is starting to wear off so I'm on the search again kind of.

Yeah, I kinda regret that as well. I cheaped out because I was looking to buy a house, and since I sorta gave up on that it wouldnt have mattered.

There's some damn f****ng rattles in the front of the dash the dealer can't seem to be bothered to fix, and it has some rough idling that the dealer also can't seem to fix. I've had some other issues that have been fixed, so they're negligible.

The leather seats are so comfy though, and the leather steering wheel is nice. I forgive it most of the time.

OP, how can you stand those seats? I sat in an ST and my ass went "WTF?!"

I've had a Cruze LTZ as a rental a few times...a VERY comfortable highway car. I prefer it to the Focus in fact. But neither match the MZ3 IMO.

No, but I love CAUSING buyers remorse when someone who obviously just left the dealer with the fastest car he ever owned is cruising for his first epeen win.

The propensity to drive like a douche goes up with certain factors, the strongest of which of many seems to be a younger driver with a new car and temp tags.

"Yup he's wishing he bought the V8 version right now...and unbeknownst to him it STILL wouldn't have mattered :awe:".

Lately I've noticed it's actually young girls around here with new cars who are and more aggressive and drive with holier than thou untouchable attitudes, whipping around 60 lane changes per minute, tailgating, trying to outpace other drivers , etc. Yet they still get cheaper insurance I'm sure

Bummer you're not enjoying your ST. Mine has filled my needs well. And with the colder weather and general just unspirited driving, my mileage for the last month (~1600 miles) has been just over 31MPG.

My only real complaint is that I wish it was just a *bit* bigger. Minor things like excessive brake dust are on the list too but overall it does a lot of things very well and very little poorly.

But in the end, it's only money if you choose to take a bath and sell it now. You might even consider getting a moderately used car as a replacement so you don't go out of pocket too much. If you really are miserable living with it, life is too short and we spend too much time in our cars to stay with it.
