I've had a Cruze LTZ as a rental a few times...a VERY comfortable highway car. I prefer it to the Focus in fact. But neither match the MZ3 IMO.

I'm sure, I hear lots of good things about the MZ3. Unfortunately for me, Dad was helping me buy the car while I'm in college (again, at 25) so I had to meet certain expectations in my choice of vehicle. The largest of which was "not sporty", so the Cruze is about as sporty as I could get. I am a bit hooked on the low end torque from the turbo, its nice.

I just got a 2013 genesis coupe track. Wouldn't say buyers remorse, just that I'm disappointed in its performance a bit. I thought it would be faster than it actually is and handle a touch better given it's the top trim. I would have gone back to Subaru if their cars weren't so damn ugly now.

I regret not getting the manual transmission instead of the autoslushbox I did get. And not getting the wagon like I should have. Now I'm looking at wagons and none of the ones of the market appeal to me except maybe the new V60 which I can't find any people's impressions of.

The V60 looks great to be sure.

There's a few vids out there for it, though not sure if these are what you're looking for.

I bought a 2010 Prius a year ago which really appealed to my inner Scrooge. It's great on gas of course and has some nice amenities inside but it's like driving a toaster. Great A to B vehicle but it lacks soul and I've really been thinking about trading it for something fun lately.

Not sure whether it's worth the hassle of finding a new car though for a 7 mile commute that peaks at 35mph.

I've seen a few reviews. I'm kind of more interested in actual owners' impressions and how the reliability of these newer platforms are. Which will probably take awhile as it's a whole new engine as far as I'm aware.

If you've paid it off, figure out what the car is worth now....then deduct that amount from what you paid in sales tax + loan interest....that'll give you an idea of how much you've got invested.

I never buy a car in one day and we've only purchased 1 new car(SUV) because we wanted certain features like leather, running boards, third row seating... It was a few thousand $$ cheaper for us to buy a new one and have the dealership install leather for what the markup was on used inventory.

You really never know how you'll like a car until you drive it for a while and get used to all its noises and handling quirks.

My problem is I want to buy a new car but I still have not found the vehicle to push me over the edge.

1. Came close to buying a GTI. Was concerned about the reliability then meet up with a friend that had one. She said to run far, far away. Nothing but problems.

2. Then I decided on the Focus ST. Did several test drives. Loved everything about it except for the dam seats. They just don't work with my ass.

At this stage I had been shopping for over a year. I had saved so much money that I decided to go a bit up market.

3. Decided on the new Lexus IS350 F-Sport. Like everything about it except the automatic but figured with the good resale value I would not have any problems selling it. However the cost to get it OTD is almost 50000 dollars. Not sure I want to spend that much money on a car. Comes down to value not having the cash.

Of course I still love my 14 year old Nissan Xterra. Just feel it's finally time to treat myself to a new car.

I was a little sad when I sold my c5 corvette. It was a fun car, just time to move on.

Funny you mentioned this as I traded the 06 Subaru Legacy for my current 2011 Cruze Eco 6MT. After 53,000 miles I'm still averaging 41 mpg. Very smooth 6 speed by the way.

Damn, that's really impressive. Not to be a downer but doesn't the Eco model have a rear beam axle instead of the independent setup of other models? I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

Yes it does, but as long as I stay off the slalom courses it doesn't seem to affect my driving style. If you really want to get down on it, it also has rear drum brakes. :)

Ugh. Hate that too(the drums). More on principle though for that one. The rear beam axle does bother me. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal given I don't drive slalom courses either but even my "spirited" mountain driving makes those mid corner bumps suck.

Nope, but I do regret that better and better cars keep coming out every single year.... I'm on my 3rd performance car in 3 years, and already have my sights on the next one.

Bought a loaded Chevy Sonic LTZ hatchback brand-new in May of '12. Paid cash.

Overall I love the car. For such a small thing, it's quiet, comfortable, and has a pretty smooth ride. I'm also pretty happy with the fit and finish of the whole thing (felt a lot nicer than the competition). It's odd-looking, but I love it and still enjoy taking a look at it after I park and walk away.

What I don't like is the gas mileage and the transmission. I got a 1.8 with the 6-speed auto. I only average about ~28-30mpg on my commute, sometimes less. For such a small car I was expecting it to be a lot better on gas. Also, the tranny leaves a lot to be desired; it's always hunting for a gear and the changes are pretty harsh.

I wouldn't say I have buyer's remorse, but I do wish I would have been a little more patient and seen what the Prius C or other updated small hatches had to offer before signing the check.

Your experiences with the ST seem to mirror the 2 people I know that own them. Great car, but the comfort issues keep amplifying to the point they hate driving it.

I bought a 2002 BMW 330CIC last year, and I got nothing but crap about it. "It'll break down every 5 minutes! You'll spend more than you paid for it fixing it! You can't drive that thing in the winter! It's so small you'll hate it!"

I'm a pretty decent mechanic, and I've spend a total of $700 putting tires and some other parts that were due to be fixed at the cars age over the last year. It's a very reliable vehicle, and it's the go-to car now when the family wants to go somewhere. It's actually part of the family now :)

My point is, never buy a car on specs. Buy a car you know you can live with.

Interestingly, several here have regretted not getting an MT...that has always been my singular requirement...for virtually all the dozen vehicles I've owned and driven to a million miles...

Regardless of the make/model...the MT allows me to get "in tune" with the machine, to get to know it better and to make the best of it...

The MT in the Focus ST is great- but the Recaro seats are not comfortable and give you the feeling of being "squished". The design of the cabin is a bit claustrophobic as well.

Which are not real Recaro's anyways. They are beefed up Ford Focus seats with Recaro's labels on them. I wish they got ride of the stupid beefed up padded areas on the seat cushions and put in real adjustable seat. Other than the seats it's a fun car.
