Only except the killing part isn't the most painful part. Imagine living your entire life in a room jam packed with people to the point where you can't move, and then covered in everyone's fecal matter, where you stay there your entire life, pumped up with drugs until you die. It sure sounds like dying is the best part of the livestock, the point where their suffering is ended. Livestock factories isn't exactly a resort. Not exactly comparable to the hunting argument you brought up. Comparing them is like comparing heaven to hell.
Animals generally don't need to be outfitted with extra equipment. Evolution has given it to them. And even then, it's probably a quicker and painful death with the equipment than without. I'd rather be killed swiftly by a sharp blade than to be slowly pecked to death by 100 cocks.
But just think about it, if you were a cock.. which would you rather be: livestock, where you live your entire life covered in fecal matter, packed where you can't move; or as a cockfighter, where you are peppered tender care, well fed, groomed, bathed, given a carefully maintained diet with special formulaic foods, all while having the chance to live if you're strong enough to win the fight.
If anything, the latter seems far less cruel.

Yes, I've been to a cockfight in a small town in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The fight is over in two minutes. The action is in the betting which takes place thirty to forty minutes before the fight. Fairly mundane, a two minute fight. I believe someone should see something like this just to know such things take place. A bullfight is interesting also. I pass no judgement on things like this which are so firmly rooted in someone's culture.

Having been a farmer and rancher I'm not fond of killing animals without a specific purpose except in the following case: A neighbor had a rooster she raised that changed its habits. As it got older it would strut about, and sink it's talons into her head while flapping its wings. She complained that it would attack her. I would've put that rooster in a frying pan in three seconds.
