Cockfighting is a barbaric blood sport that has no place in civilized society; it is illegal everywhere in the United States except for Louisiana and a very small part of New Mexico.

Funny how ATOT would call watching chickens kill each other so inhumane and wrong.. but make fun of vegans for thinking slaughtering animals for food is wrong.
Either way, I'm pretty sure the only reason this is illegal is because it involves gambling, which is generally illegal as it screws up people's lives and causes violence.

Killing animals for food is generally done quickly and humanely. Even hunters make every attempt to dispatch their prey as quickly as possible. Cockfights are far from quick. Nor are they natural. Sure, some animals will fight to the death. But, those animals aren't outfitted with extra equipment to be able to carry out the task. Quite simply, cockfighting is a barbaric blood sport and has no place in our society.

I don't understand your logic. It's just a bunch of men who are passionate about cocks meeting in a hot environment - who are you to predict what's going to happen?Originally posted by: DeadByDawn
I'm sure your friends "loophole" would work in court
How about you and your buddies fight each other and let the chickens watch.

Roosters aren't the only animals that fight to the death. But it'd be crazy for me to expect you to think of that considering how narrow visioned you are.
They are, however, the animals being discussed in this thread, and as it happens, they don't fight to the death in nature. Fighting cocks are bred for aggression, and equipped with spurs to make them capable of killing one another.
Are you by any chance not a native speaker of English? I don't want to get into a whole argument with you if your dispute hinges on a simple language barrier. I take it from your use of language you might not be, and I don't mean to pick on that.
So by what you just said, you would be implying that cockfighting would be ok so long as they naturally fight to the death anyways. Are you by any chance, not first nature to logic?
BTW I just dug this up on google.
Devoted to finding a mate to the very end, the males occasionally fight to the death trying to win the adulations of a female.
Not exactly the same species, but a similar type of animal.
By your logic, I am free to follow you around with a big sign that says, "JonTheBaller is a big douche" and if you don't like it - too bad - mind your business...Originally posted by: JonTheBaller
There's nothing illegal or disturbing about freedom. If you don't like it, fine, mind your own business.Originally posted by: Strk

Ok, my friend tells me that there's a bit of a loop hole. He says him and a bunch of people that have pet roosters go to a meet. Two of them will walk around in a circle and if the roosters start fighting then they back off because it's too dangerous to intervene. I think this is what makes it legal.
That would be like saying I put my fist out and you just happened to run into it. Seriously, it's illegal and a disturbing practice.
