How about you and your buddies fight each other and let the chickens watch.
I don't understand your logic. It's just a bunch of men who are passionate about cocks meeting in a hot environment - who are you to predict what's going to happen?

From the way you make it sound... I predict gay porn would happen.

Either way, I'm pretty sure the only reason this is illegal is because it involves gambling, which is generally illegal as it screws up people's lives and causes violence.

With all due respect, this is a pretty nakedly stupid post. The prohibition on cockfights has nothing to do with gambling and everything to do with animal cruelty. I think there is a credible argument (though not one I personally believe in) that it's wrong to eat meat, and chicken production is a particularly rough form of commercial meat packaging, but food chickens are, frankly, bred to be food, and are not subjected to gratuitous cruelty and fear. There is a need to produce food, but there's no legitimate reason to have cockfights.
With all due respect, you're a tard.
Animals fight to the death all the time in nature for mates, just like how animals kill each other all the time in nature for food. Your claims that chickens all the sudden don't go through fear and cruelty is delusional. A livestock factory isn't exactly a resort.. ok maybe it is for kobe beef where they get back massages and beer, but chickens are generally packed skin tight in their own fecal matter for their entire lives where they are stuffed with food to the point where they cannot stand. That's really any less cruel than cockfights. Your claims are as ridiculous as your credibility.
Even the humane society site linked talks about how cockfights cause violence due to gambling. It's not exactly a mystery that it would be banned for that nature considering that even recreational gambling in your home is illegal.

animals of the same species rarely fight to the death. its all about dominance.

After careful consideration, I've arrived at the conclusion that anyone who attends a cockfight in the year 2006 is a fvcking retard.

I haven't been to a cockfight. I have, however, been to parties where only one semi-cute girl was there.

I guess it's close enough.

percentage-wise.. you'd be right, but given how many species are out there.. it's quite common.

Are you really so stupid that you can't see a difference between what happens in nature and arming fighting cocks with razor-sharp spurs and pitting them to fight to the death? As I said, I readily concede that commercial poultry production isn't pretty, but it's done for a legitimate reason (i.e., food production) as opposed to cockfighting, which is all about bloodlust. Furthermore, in nature, roosters aren't armed with steel spurs, nor do they fight to the death. If you really can't see the difference between nature and organized cockfighting, you might be the dumbest person I've encountered this week, and you are up against some stiff competition (including but not limited to the OP in this very thread) for that prize.

Here's a hint: The Illinois law against cockfighting, which I cited above, criminalizes any organized animal fights, whether or not gambling is involved.

Take your personal attacks and shove them up your ignorant ass.

ohhh razor sharp spurs make them cruel. Guess what.. animals in nature have razor sharp spurs and they aren't afraid to use it too. And even then, razor spurs probably make the death quicker and less painful. I know I'd rather be killed with a razor sharp katana than a rusty old dull pocket knife.
No one needs to eat meat either. If it's cruel enough, it would be banned. There's no special rule here. Eating meat tastes fvcking good just like how watching cockfights is intended to be entertaining to watch. You really are dense. Oh and you started the fvcking personal attack yourself. Saying with all due respect doesn't make it anymore "respectful". I'm sure you learned that when I used it. Fvck off.

Why don't you find me a rooster born with steel spurs - as soon as you do, I will concede you are at least partially right.

Fact is meat sustains life. Cockfights do not. You eat meat to live. Cockfights are a selfish and cruel form of entertainment that shouldnt be allowed. I can't believe you see them as being equal.

I don't really understand why you are trying to defend cockfighting. It makes as much sense as me forcing you to fight someone else, both of you being armed with swords. I bet you will say "People have swords in nature..."

From the IL Humane Care for Animals Act, at 510 ILCS 70:

(g) No person shall attend or otherwise patronize any show, exhibition, program, or other activity featuring or otherwise involving a fight between 2 or more animals, or any animal and human, or the intentional killing of any animal for the purposes of sport, wagering or entertainment.

They are, however, the animals being discussed in this thread, and as it happens, they don't fight to the death in nature. Fighting cocks are bred for aggression, and equipped with spurs to make them capable of killing one another.

Are you by any chance not a native speaker of English? I don't want to get into a whole argument with you if your dispute hinges on a simple language barrier. I take it from your use of language you might not be, and I don't mean to pick on that.

Do you realize how ridiculous it is to consider them one and the same? Sure livestock factories are cruel, so naturally you should stop eating meat right? You wouldnt want to be cruel right?

If you do eat meat I can consider you as being the same as the asshats who are in a barn right now putting spurs and rockets on roosters and making them fight as they try to win money to buy more crack, right? Which means I would be very inclined to kick your ass.

So by what you just said, you would be implying that cockfighting would be ok so long as they naturally fight to the death anyways. Are you by any chance, not first nature to logic?
BTW I just dug this up on google.
Devoted to finding a mate to the very end, the males occasionally fight to the death trying to win the adulations of a female.
Not exactly the same species, but a similar type of animal.

Well gambling and doing crack on top of eating animals is obviously more asshattish than just being cruel. Not really a fair comparison is it?
So you're saying that you can be cruel just so long as it's for food?

Even the humane society site linked talks about how cockfights cause violence due to gambling. It's not exactly a mystery that it would be banned for that nature considering that even recreational gambling in your home is illegal.

If you really can't see the difference between nature and organized cockfighting, you might be the dumbest person I've encountered this week, and you are up against some stiff competition for that prize.

Fvck off.

I'm not defending cockfighting.. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous it is to consider killing animals for food in livestock factories PERFECTLY OK, but cockfighting PLAIN FVCKING WRONG. I personally find both cruel.. but hey, that's life.

Well gambling and doing crack on top of eating animals is obviously more asshattish than just being cruel. Not really a fair comparison is it?
So you're saying that you can be cruel just so long as it's for food?

I think cruel is a subjective thing. But obviously there are standards. I dont think the livestock folks take chainsaws to the animals when its time. They probably give them a humane death.

With that said, I eat meat sparingly, like once a week and sometimes less because I dont need to eat gobs of meat. I also, dont attend or condone cockfights.

However if people feel they need to eat meat, there are institutions in place for that. Ones that have been deemed to be as humane as possible.
