LOL
Smooooth. Real smooth. I think a warning and some bans of offenders should have preceded deleting the whole forum.
Then again, the "Forum Issues" forum was also recently reduced in scope to pretty much just be for tattling on people and requesting name changes.

Seems like the management is starting to view the Forums as more trouble than they are worth.

I've been here a long time and it seems to me the quality of the forums has really taken a nose dive in the last 6-8 months. That coupled with the fact that the Mods do not seem to be even handed and fair with locks, bans, etc...as they were in the past has driven a lot of the good people away from these forums. I think that is a terrible shame because this really has been a great place for the exchange of information and ideas. I originally stumbled in here because I was looking for some help with a motherboard issue and had Anandtech suggested to me by a friend. After that I began visiting ATOT and had a great time in here. Will I stick around? Probably but I have a feeling it won't be as much as in the past. The quality of posts here has just gone downhill, especially over in Politics & News where you have a few people that seem to be above the rules and can say/do anything they want.

how about having private topics a little less private, that everyone can view them but only the users registered to a thread can post there

Anyone who was in the Low-Carb Diet private thread, could you PM me the site that was created by one of the members? Thanks.

eh....those don't bother me that much. These forums are still a great source of info for motherboards, CPU, etc...I just don't think the ATOT section and the P&N section are going to live much longer if the quality continues to decline.

Ack, don't say that. The hardforums soapbox died, I hope OT doesn't die. I've just started here.

Sorry...just the way I see it. Like I said earlier, I've been here a long time. Seen the good and the bad and I can honestly say it's never been this bad. Why? Because it seems like within the last year the place has been overrun with twerps who have no respect for anyone and don't follow any kind of rules. That coupled with the fact that the mods lately seem to be playing favorites with some members and letting them get away with just about anything, while at the same time the mods are far too harsh on others. Then you have the issue of some threads being locked for what appears to be no reason while a similar thread can live forver. At least in the past the mods were even handed and would post in the thread explaining why it was locked. Personally I don't know which is worse, the influx of disrespectful punks who have nothing to offer or the lack of fairness by the mods.

Bummer, hope the start a business one finds a way, I think they had collected most of our info so I expect an email and we had already talked of a website.

Big thumbs down overall for the handling, but I definitely understand the reasoning. A shame, really.

I was afraid something like this would happen. I agree with the decision to terminate them, it's just a shame that a few spoiled it for the many.

I'm 99% sure that mods can't see the offending threads, which is what causes the problems. I know that several members here have exploited that...

I am not disagreeing with you, but if that is the case, how did the mods verify that the porn/warez threads were actually there?

I wish they would have given us a warning, so someone we could have decided on continuing the thread elsewhere.

Once they got a link they could view it.

I would imagine that in a forum setting they're able to view all our actions.

I'm sure our PM's can be monitored too if need be.

Because of the way Private Topics works, that could have taken weeks. Our moderators are volunteers, and nobody has that much free time.

Anand knows we have done this. We found one thread with over 300 posts discussing and linking to warez. Once we knew about it, the fact that these threads existed on our forums put Anand, and us, in legal jeopardy. Thanks, but no thanks.

You do not even want to guess how many members we have with addresses major software manufacturers. How long do you think it would take before some of them were invited to one of these threads? What would you want us to say when their piracy people come around? I guess we could spend a some time taking screen shots and handing everyone's information to them. If that is what you want, go where they allow warez links.

Again, we are sorry that a few people forced us to discontinue Private Topics.
