Anyone else work past work hours?

Work has taken over my life. I log into work when I'm at home to get stuff done. I stay late to finish projects, and I think about work a lot of the time when I'm not at work. What is wrong with me and how can I fix this. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and gone back to normal? I had to work with this guy today on some high priority project that everyone is freaking out about, but he left at 5pm sharp. I admire his respect for his own time.

Any tips?

I prefer neffing on ATOT to working. Well, sometimes I combine the two...

I work enough to get my job done. I have responsibilities and I want them taken care of. I dont always work late, usually 8-9 hours a day, but there weeks that are insane for me. A few weeks ago I worked 90 hours in 7 days. Crazy enough, but I had things that had to be done and I'm glad I did it.

I'm sure it can wait until tomorrow. Remind yourself of that everyday and GTFO

I laugh, no, I chortle, at people like you. Back in the day we called you retards. I have no idea what your coworkers would call you now, other than stupid.

not if i can help it! when my shift is supposed to be over, it better be over or I start to get pissed, especially with no OT.
I don't mind doing it once in awhile, but it better not turn into a regular thing.

What did you do before you were so involved in your work?

I was in school. I was a workaholic as soon as I started working.

So you had no free time when you were in school?

maybe 10-15 minutes unless there's something major going on. I don't like to leave with work in progress, but I won't stay super late unless it's really important.

I check emails but don't respond to anything unless it's an emergency or time-sensitive.

The reason why 99% of people don't finish things in time is because or poor time management.

I'll stay a little later, maybe up to 30 minutes, but only if the work is interesting and I don't feel like leaving right then. It's usually not that I feel that I must stay to stay on schedule, but it's just because the work is, as I said, interesting. :)

Normally though, I'll be out the door by 5:05.

My strategy was fuck 'em. I'll work overtime for desperate emergencies, but my life's more important than this job. I'm not sure this is the best economic climate for that that policy, but it's the correct one imo.

Yes. I'm salaried, senior associate at a Big 4 accounting firm. I definitely work past regular hours. Trying to work a bit more tonight but will likely fall asleep on top of my laptop.

People who are fond of saying "it's all poor time management" either don't work in the same industry or are at a higher level and have conveniently forgotten what it's like to be a grunt. I work for a woman who loves to say that, then continues to pile on more and more work.

Yep, I typically work from around 7:00 AM to somewhere between 5:00 and 8:00 PM. Doesn't bother me at all, I still have plenty of time for important things like food, drink, and women.

People who work huge hours out of some sense of loyalty and dedication to their company make me laugh. Your company has no loyalty or dedication to you and would happily dump your ass for any or no reason.

Remember, there is ALWAYS more work to do (unless you work someplace like McDonalds).

At some point you just cut yourself off and go home and leave it for tommorow.

there is no "past work hours" in my line of work. I can't simply make a a pile of ~3-4 hour sequencing reactions go faster.

do you know a faster way to inbreed 18 lines of fruit flies over 5 generations, when each generation takes ~30-33 days?

Seriously, I'd really like to know :(
