Anyone else waiting on the 7D II before buying a new body?
My 20D and 30D are nearly older than jesus. I really need a new body. Looking forward to having something that can shoot video.

The 7D came out in August of 2009 it's currently April of 2011 I'm hoping around June, July they will release a new one.

Anyone else?

Haven't heard anything of the sort on Canon Rumors. The only rumors I've heard are a possible 5D Mark III release later this year and a 1Ds IV in 2012. The 5D II came out in late 2008 and still hasn't gotten replaced, so if anything it should be ahead of a 7D II in the release schedule.

With the recent earthquakes reducing production capacity for all of the big manufacturers, I wouldn't hold out for a 7D II as it could be quite a while.

Darn. I was hoping for a body upgrade around June with about $1,500 in cash. I might just bit and get the 7D. I can decide if I want a 5D or a 7D. Good thing I have time.

Why not just get a used 5D Mark II? Seems like your lenses are designed for FF anyway...

7D is a nice camera but at the end of the day its image quality is no better than a new Rebel's. I've shot a 7D alongside my 5D mk I and definitely preferred the images from the latter.

The 7D would be $1300 refurbished.

Nope. Would rather invest in lenses for a couple more years before I have the urge to even think about a new body.
Same here. My XSi is starting to look old but it is still more than capable of delivering great images.
If Canon is able to create effective in-camera HDR, that might pique my interest, but otherwise there are SO MANY lenses I would love to have.

What do you most often shoot?

If sports, 7D is worthwhile upgrade
If portraiture, I'd rather get a 5D I if you were on a budget

The 5D would be a more sensible option but I can't buy it because I don't buy used bodys (It's a weird mental thing) and it's 6 years old. That's over 25% of my age 😀

5D production continued until 2008 or 09. Mine was made in 2008 looking at the date code on the bottom. So many of them aren't so old.

My 5D (which I got used) was in like new condition. Ironically it was in even better condition than the S90 I got refurb from Canon (which had a few tiny cosmetic blemishes)

You should go with a 5D Mark III

7D Mk II will be out in 2012 at the earliest.

Everything I have read (keep it mind it is all hearsay) indicates 1D/1Ds (full frame) replacement

then 5D Mark III

and a possible APS-H (Canon EOS 3D) all before the end of this year.

I have heard nothing about a 7D Mark II.

I have a 7D (bought in September) and will definitely be moving to full frame next.

Anyone have a link to the hierarchy of Canon bodies?
Is there a link to show which bodies have the same sensor?

The

share the same sensor

The

All use different sensors

OP, I replaced my 30D with a T2i and couldn't be happier. Lost the nice ergonomic touches, but it's also extremely convenient to have a smaller camera if I want something more discreet. I use it as a backup for my 5D and love it.

I can't do that. My hand started cramping with my XTI that why I bought a 30D 🙁

I think that if all you want is a newer camera, the 60D should be fine (provided you don't shoot a lot of sports). It's also got a flip out screen which is great for video. Put the money you save in your lens fund.

Otherwise, get a 5D or 5D II. You won't go back once you go FF 🙂

😀 If I set my budget for a used 5D II (breaking all sorts of rules 😉) at $2000 near October / December I should be able to find one

I hope

I'm waiting for it if only to drive the 7D prices down. Though, I'm waiting more for a 5D3 to drive the 5D2 down =)

If they release a 5D3 with improved AF, you're going to be drooling over the new AF system compared to the crap they call "autofocus" on the 5D and 5D2 😉
