Well I tried this out the other day. I gave it a few tries. My opinion on this game is that GT4 is going to be more and more of the same, with respect to the great graphics. However, the shadows in this game are pretty horrible.
The horrible shadows I am talking about, if you have played this, are the shadows that fall on the streets in NY level from the buildings. When you drive partially into the shadows, your car is either completey covered by the shadow, or not at all. In other words, there are no half shadows on the car, that fall halfway between the left and right side of the car, or whatever percentage of the left side should be shadowed and the right shouldnt.
When in the 3rd view, the 3rd person farthest away from the car, the car does not even physically move when you turn left/right. The car graphics itself stay centered in the screen, and just the course moves around you. This is something that shouldn't be in games since the NES days. I was very disappointed with this view, as it's usually my favorite view. The 2nd view, the close 3rd person view, I wish was just a LITTLE higher above the car so you could see infront of the car more.
The graphics are very very pretty though. The control is horrible. I just can't get into slowing down to a crawl to get around a turn when I am playing a racing game. I also hate that the sense of speed is not really there, especially when compared to a game like Need for Speed: Underground.
It's just my opinion, but I am going to pass up on GT4 when it hits stores in 2004. I am glad this little 'prequel' edition was out to get my hopes down.
