Well I tried this out the other day. I gave it a few tries. My opinion on this game is that GT4 is going to be more and more of the same, with respect to the great graphics. However, the shadows in this game are pretty horrible.

The horrible shadows I am talking about, if you have played this, are the shadows that fall on the streets in NY level from the buildings. When you drive partially into the shadows, your car is either completey covered by the shadow, or not at all. In other words, there are no half shadows on the car, that fall halfway between the left and right side of the car, or whatever percentage of the left side should be shadowed and the right shouldnt.

When in the 3rd view, the 3rd person farthest away from the car, the car does not even physically move when you turn left/right. The car graphics itself stay centered in the screen, and just the course moves around you. This is something that shouldn't be in games since the NES days. I was very disappointed with this view, as it's usually my favorite view. The 2nd view, the close 3rd person view, I wish was just a LITTLE higher above the car so you could see infront of the car more.

The graphics are very very pretty though. The control is horrible. I just can't get into slowing down to a crawl to get around a turn when I am playing a racing game. I also hate that the sense of speed is not really there, especially when compared to a game like Need for Speed: Underground.

It's just my opinion, but I am going to pass up on GT4 when it hits stores in 2004. I am glad this little 'prequel' edition was out to get my hopes down.

When did this game come out? And if you copy/pasted this, may god have mercy on your soul.

Sure thing. I doubt the real GT4 will exhibit what you said. Firstly, you state it's basically the same as GT3 but with better graphics.. so WTF do all these issues you state later come from? And besides, if you don't play in the first person view, you suck. :p

Maybe it's because I haven't played GT3 in a while heh. However I was not the biggest fan of GT3 after it got very repetitive to me.

Yea if you dont have a JAP ps2, you need a modchip. Or I believe there is a Loader out there that you load up in the ps2, then it lets you put in an import game.

I'm no fan of the Gran Turismo series, but compared to NFS:U, it is very good. Underground is a pure arcade racer, and the sense of speed is there, but highly unrealistic. And they simply achieve this by widening the field of view. In real life, you have to slow to turn, or else you crash and die. Therefore, the controls for GT4 probably aren't "horrible", more likely realistic.

I've played it. It's okay, maybe once I play a little more I'll like it more. I thought the controls were terribly stiff. The graphics are better but not so much so that I was amazed. That said, I'm still VERY excited for GT4 to hit the US next year.

If GT4 has more cars to choose from unlike GT3, then I'll pick it up in a heart beat. :)

I agree, except that I am a fan of the series. If you want an unrealistic driving game where you can take corners without slowing down, the problem is with you and not the game. GT is meant to be realistic.

And that's why I never bought GT3. It isn't unrealistic, but IMO the gameplay and control isn't as good as in GT2. If GT4 is the same, I doubt I'll buy that either.

That rally course they showed in the video?. The fastest way to get around it is just never hit the brakes and just slide along the walls. At least that what it seemed like to me.
