Anyone else play Rock Band at Best Buy?

It felt really weird. The guitar was very unresponsive to me at some times, but worked at others.

When I picked up the guitar I loved the fact that the strum bar does not click, but then wished it did. I don't need the click, but if it had something to let you know where it registers the strum.

I could not notice any hammer ons at all. I figured where they should be, and did not strum, it worked, but I couldn't tell by looking at it.

I did 2 songs on guitar on expert, and 90%+ each of them, but on one I failed in the first 20 seconds because it just did not respond, I don't know what happened.

Then I did drums on expert.

The bass pedal was left out and set to automatic, so it made it easier. But for my first song on drums ever I still got an 87% on black hole sun which to me is far too high. I felt it should be hard enough that someone like me should fail rather than doing well. But again, if you add the pedal I would have done much worse.

It was certainly fun on the drum part. I just hope that the rest of the songs are much more difficult, and I just happened to pick a rather easy song.

I really did not like the guitar though. The frets were too close together IMO, I could not tell where one ended and the other began while playing and it cause missed notes.

I tried to play at my local BB over the weekend, but everytime you'd choose a song, it would go to the loading screen and then give a disc dirty error message. Didn't matter what song you picked, so I didn't get to play. I noticed that the strum bar didn't click, and I immediately felt that I wouldn't like that at all. I need some type of tactical feedback.....this is why I hate iPods.

Had the same experiance here.. I wasnt sure if it was the typical busted best buy demo, or the game itself.

I didnt have any problems with guitar, but I was playing on newb mode because my pea brain does not move fast enough to process the 5th button 🙂

Most of the problems are probably just because 1,000s of random people in best buy were playing them. Hopefully.

I have heard that alot of people prefer the GH guitars and I have also heard that after a couple hours with the rock band guitar you get used to it.

My only worry is that on every Rock Band video I have ever seen, the guitar looks ridiculously easy. Either way I'm getting it for the group play.

THe EGM review should be out to subscribers in like a week and it also lists the first 3 months worth of DLC.

Can't wait to see the list of DLC. I cringe, though, thinking about how much they are planning on charging. After buying the $170 pack, then buying all the DLC in the coming months, you'll have over $300 invested into this game before you know it :Q.

for those that didn't know, myself included, DLC = downloadable content.

Is this a game that should be pre-ordered? Typically, games are easy to find on release, but I'm not sure how many bundle packs stores will carry since they take up a lot of space. I know that GH3 was out of almost all stores in my area for the 360.

I hear that you need to preorder. Amazon even has a 1 per limit because of limited availability. Could be hype though.

The developer themselves stated specifically that the bundle packs will be in short supply this holiday season, that's why they aren't selling individual guitars and drum sets until early next year. Just the game will be easy to get, though, if you don't want the drums and will just be using your GH2 or 3 guitar.

Drums and guitar worked perfect for me, drums were very responsive, especially when you had the breaks and could do your own thing. My daughter and I had a blast playing it together and am def going to get it when it comes out. I'm sure like one poster said, the 1000's ogf people that come through have already broken it, you get the same on the GTH2 demos also.

I don't think I like the design of the guitar. I don't like the flat buttons or the strum bar but whatever I'm getting it. Not like I can get them seperate till next year. GH2 guitar works with it at least.

Everything I hear about the actual game is great.

Awesome to hear of the non-clicking clicking strum bar, that is my most hated thing on the GH guitars. Also flat buttons will be different, not sure if it will be in a good way, but it is a tiny "tad" more realistic.

I'm getting a little worried about the instruments. Reading the rockband forums, it sounds like most of the instruments are broken at most of the best buys. I know people are hard on them but GH guitars there usually seem to be able to take the beating. Specifically some of the same issues keep coming up. The strum bar seems to break really easily.

This game is expensive man I hope I'm not getting ripped.

I am considering canceling my pre-order at Amazon. The instruments should be durable enough to take some beatings, I mean it involves music, and people will be emotional at times when playing the game.

I have a feeling that a lot of people may have problems with the instruments, and Harmonix/EA/MTV will probably end up making some revisions.

Yeah I'm thinking about it. EGM review should be out any day now so I'll wait for that and keep checking the Rock Band boards.

Just got back from my local BB, played the drums for a bit, pretty sweet! Will wait tho. Too many games and so little time to play them!

Did everything work good and the drums were responsive?

I also got to play Rock Band at my local BB (Little Rock, AR). I just played the drums in solo mode, and enjoyed it immensely. I tried 2 songs with medium difficulty and didn't seem to have any problems. Managed to hit 90-95% of the notes in my 1st two tries. Tried a song on hard but no notes came up (which I later realized was a glitch in the game). Drum kit was pretty responsive although it wasn't entirely clear to me when I was hitting the notes correctly and when I wasn't.

Was short on time so didn't try out the guitar at all. I also noticed that the microphone was hooked up but don't know if it worked or if everyone was too chicken to try that out.

I definitely want to go back & try it out some more. I hope hope hope that it comes out for the Wii.

Edit: I just learned that the "lack of notes" in Hard wasn't a glitch. In fact, there was a horizontal line that kept appearing but I didn't realize until now that that was the "note" for the bass pedal. I'm not sure if there was a bass pedal hooked up and didn't look very hard because I didn't know if there was supposed to be one.

In the retail version there is a bass pedal but the demos just have it autoplay.

Surprisingly yes. I was at BB last week and tried the drums out, went again yesterday and the drums were still there and not busted. Response was very good. It appears you dont need to be EXACT, at least in the mode I tried it on.

I saw someone playing it while I was in Best Buy yesterday drums looked pretty responsive from what I could tell. I definitely need to buy this game, I just need to figure out a way to transport it and a 360 around with me.

is best buy doing pre-orders on Rock Band? I usually do my pre-orders with them, but I haven't seen it available yet... am worried I just missed it (the GH3 pre-orders were sold out so fast that I never saw those). My wife is supposed to give me rock band for Christmas, but if she doesn't get a pre-order somewhere I'll probably be waiting until February or something :\
