Robert Fisk lecturing on Syria at Dublin Trinity College. Some interesting tidbits of information, especially about the start of the Iraq insurgency and ISIS. His anecdote about people showing up first as dead bodies, then as dead bodies with the heads cut off, then as a dead body with a dogs head sewn on is pretty chilling.

Of course he does point to the real cause of the issue: Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Who are the US best muslim buddies in the middle east? Well, Saudi Arabia and Qatar of course!

I hope Trump resumes U.S. air strikes in Syrian areas in which ISIS is fighting. Because the Russians will probably make good on their threat to shoot down U.S. planes that attack forces loyal to the Syrian government or no matter who they attack. And then I can watch the war between the U.S. and Russia I've been talking about on these forms on occasion. Here's one of many sources for the Russian warning to shoot down our planes:

The last thing I ever want to see is Russia and the US in an active war. The two of them both have enough nukes to turn the other into a crater, but we'll all suffer the fallout regardless of where we live. Maybe I am just selfish because I live just about 800km from NYC, which would be sure to be decimated as a target, but the idea just does not appeal to me :p

Really I don't want to see the US get in any sort of military conflict at all while Trump is in power. The man is inept and incredibly sensitive, he's surrounded himself with some incompetents as well and I believe it would be a humans rights disaster like we haven't seen since the forties. If ever there was a sitting president where the likelihood of nukes being used in a conflict was most likely since they last used them it is right now. Worse, I doubt there would be an actual conflict between the US and Russia, rather it would be shitting on some third world country making Trump eligible for a war crimes trial.

The worst thing that could happen globally in the next four years is any sort of military conflict involving the US. It would be a disaster with Trump at the helm.

I see so many people that want to mix it up with Russia and I just shake my head. People who think like that are a threat... a greater threat than Russia in the long run. They actually believe a military engagement with a nuclear power is survivable and want to prove it. It really doesn't get any crazier than that.

It's insane. It would set the entire world back decades. There are a lot of intelligent and valuable minds in the US, all dead. All the infrastructure gone, major corporations there that do real innovation and invention like tech, pharma etc. all gone. Climate change may still get a lot of us, and Trump apparently believes it's a hoax, but a nuclear exchange would do the trick as well. Wanting to see an engagement between US & Russia is madness.

Because of Trump's complete incompetence in political savvy, his tendency to use threats of violence right away, and his incredibly fragile ego that is easy to exploit I will be surprised if we are not in a war by the end of February.

It's insane. It would set the entire world back decades.

An all out nuclear war between any two major powers would not just set the world back decades, it might very well be an extinction level event. It is unlikely it would be just between the two countries, once the ICBM's start flying allies will get involved as well, and then we are in WWIII. It would set the entire world back centuries. Mankind would be left with a civilization in ruins and the challenge would be just trying to survive from day to day.
