I think your exaggerating a bit. I think Painkiller is "just right". How far do you think you would fly if you were impailed by a 300MPH 4inch diameter 3ft. long metal tiped wooden bolt? Or a double barrel shotgun blast at point blank range. Or a grenade detonating at your feet. I think its on the money. Its just that your not used to this type of physics realism in a game most likely. They may have overdid it a little, but its hard to tell. I have never really seen the effect of a person getting shot in the chest at point blank range with a double barrel shotgun. And even if I did, I don't think I would be whipping out the measuring tape to see how far he flew.

I agree, add to that the apparant low body weight of the zombies and it seems reasonable to me.

Likewise in Far Cry, I've been pretty impressed. Once, while crouching in the bushes, I threw a grenade which rolled between a characters feet, stoping just behind him. When the grenade blew, he flew up and over my head, landing behind me. Looked pretty cool, and reasonable. Haven't been able to duplicate it yet.

Another thing I was impressed by in Far Cry - My son and I were playing the Fort level, we were playing with the graphical settings and shooting the big shark thats hanging by a chain over the wooden deck just to test the various settings effects. Well my son accidently shot the chain holding up the shark. So the chain broke and down came the shark. He had fun for about 20 minutes pushing and manipulating the shark. Eventually he was able to push/roll/slide the shark off the wooden deck onto the shore. Then, with continued effort he got it into the water and played target practice on it. The whole thing looked pretty realistic.

No doubt there are some "silly" games out there. You know, you walk into a chair or box and it flies like 20 feet across the room.

It's pretty funny to smack dead fish in FC and have them launch about 500ft across the water haha. Not too realistic imo. 200ft maybe but not as far as those things went lol..

I just saw the HL2 trailer and it isn';t anything new, its the same as the E3 video released a couple months ago. Graphics are pretty good, and I love how the characters move, very smooth. I like that the levels arent small like in Doom3. The graphics werent that much better than stuff we've seen already, but the trainstation was the worst part of the E3 video. The other videos were better and showed what the gameplays really gonna look like. HL2 is looking good, can't wait to play it

I liked Neil Manke's mods, so if HL2 is nothing more than a continuation of HL with better graphics I'll have no complaints. I'm more interested in the mods.

agree, it didnt look that great, almost on par w/ CallOfDuty. The sewer levels look very similar in texture quality.

But I bet the game play rocks. Now if they could only merge the gameplay from HL2 w/ the graphics from D3, then we would be talking.

Yikes are you sure? Even the leaked beta looks better than COD, to me. There are some maps that are gourgous in the leaked version, even if they are even missing textures here and there.

I'm talking texture quality.

Graphics aren't everything, I don't play unreal 2k4 the way I do because of the looks, its a massively cooperative game, that is loads of fun! :) If HL2 can pull off a good multiplayer, it will do quite well i'm sure. But Doom 3 wins the graphics war here as far as i'm concerned. And don't tell me FarCry does and use the arguement "Doom 3 is too dark" ITS SUPPOSED TO BE! shadows! ;)
