It's been going pretty slow all day. My queue has slowly been building up (but only at 25 right now). IIRC, Berkeley recently said it would be slow during the day but significantly faster at night.

This sucks because I have niether the time nor the patience to go around to every machine and put a seti caching program on them. Instead my machines sit idle and don't do a damn thing. :( "I coulda been a contenda!"

Well... I tell you what.... it wasn't much better last night at home.... where a closet full of computers is sitting and waiting. If they don't want them to work I guess I start taking them down and rather selling them. After all I am doing this for the benefit of their work. If my computers at home run for nothing why bother?! :(

This is going to hurt them more then anything else since a lot of people will just get frustrated and drop the thing. What am I supposed to do with the computers I have running woithout a permanent connection? I need to plug in cables here and there and upload and download the caches.... I can only do this during the day since I won't spend my night at work so I din't use "their" bandwith....

Mhhhh.... I go and think about this now.... maybe I will contribute.... maybe I won't. :(

I got a setiQ server up and running for those of you running out of wu's... i'll add some WU's into your cache if you gettin low.... should be plenty of bandwidth for as many of you as you want... addy is http://fifthfactor.dns2go.com:5501... hope that helps... i HATE to see idle cpu's :/

I have been having constant trouble uploading results and retrieving more WU's. I don't believe that much in the SETI project and had quit crunching for a long time until before this race started. It is tragic that this bandwidth issue is happening, because I am seriously considering shutting it down again. I will wait a few more days, but if a resolution isn't found then I may switch to a different DC or just stop again.

It simply isn't worth this much worry to me..........:(

:| Doesn't matter what time it is always very slow or won't connect.
It took 15 min to send 2 wu this morning at 4:30 EST and tonight can't connect!!!!!
Only been at it for 3 days, And I got hooked on stats but this is ridiculous!!!!:|:|:|:|

I might just let it go:disgust:

Well... thinking about this a couple hours.... If there is no official word about this slowdown I'll call it quits. I invested too much time anyway... but now to have to deal with this is just silly!
So I am with WarCon... if it doesn't get better soon I'll jump ship. Sorry guys, but this is really anoying me! :(:|

Geeez!

I've been trying to transmit 3 WU's for 3 days now. No Tx or Rx!!!

Factor5,

I've been trying to receive work units through your proxy with no avail!

Correct me if I'm wrong, I should copy that URL to "Proxy" in Seti driver? Use Colon?

Someone please PM me when you get a chance...Thanx!

Wingnut- He needs to have you enter http://fifthfactor.dns2go.com under proxy server then enter port 5517 in the port box. You will have to get 1 WU from Berkely (if you don't have any now), complete it, then it will set you up. He will have to enable you to get WU's after you are done with the first one from Berkely.

Berkeley is resonding fine this morning. I upped my cache just in case this happens more often. I have PC's all over the place crunching for the TeAm and really don't have the time to run all over and make sure they Tx/Dx. If this is gonna work, it's gotta work... ;)
I tried multiple times during the AM yesterday to flush 20 WU's from work, but each one would time out. Even if we didn't have a crappy Dial-up @ work I don't think they would have gone through. The Seti project needs more bandwidth.

Yep, ok this morning:Q
seems to work only between 3 and 7 am Berkeley time:confused:

Oh well.

Would there be a way to set the transmit to automatic at a specified time each day???
That way we wouldn't have to go around and retry all the time!

I've been monitoring OK's proxy (SetiQueue) for a few days and there is a pattern that matches the announcement made by S@H. During the day OK's proxy is not able to get through to S@H; thus, he builds up a large cache of our results. Around 9:00 PM PST Berkley raises the network priority to high for S@H and things flow like crazy. Last night at 10:00 PM CST (8:00 PM PST) I checked and OK had about 800 results stored. This morning when I checked at 5:45 AM CST (3:45 AM PST) everything had been flushed and things were working normally. Some where around 6:45 AM PST they reduce the S@H network priority to low (or, the other traffic picks up.) This allows other campus traffic to take priority and we get shut out. If there is a lull in other campus traffic then some of our data gets through.

Due to this new policy forced onto S@H by Berley, we are going to have connect to a proxy, or have our own cache. SetiQueue works great as you can have it connect once per day at a time you specify. I have my queues (3 locations) flush to OK's TeAm Proxy. I also have some remote boxes with SetiDriver that connect to OK's Proxy. They have no idea that there is a bandwidth restriction for S@H. They just keep crunchin'!

So, please don't get discourage! Instead find a way to make this work for you! :)

I would suggest spreading out our use of proxies and not all us the same one. It might be nice to have a round robin as they have with RC5.

JW, question:

I have PCs at work here that cannot send ANYTHING to OK's proxy; simply hangs up and says "Will try again in one hour..." and that's all she wrote. I have the machines close, luckily, so I turned off the proxy use today and BAM, flow happens, but not through OK's queue.

Is this a known problem? Started happening on Friday afternoon. At home, two of three machines work through OK, but one wasn't able to send for some reason.

Ideas?

BTW, I'm **this** close to going back to RC5. The only reason I'm even hanging in there is because of the Team! >:)
