Anyone else having Google Play Music issues recently?

This is probably Android specific, and it might very well be my phone so I thought I would see if other people are having this issue.

Not long ago (probably last week) my Note 2 (4.4.2) updated with a new version of Google Play Music. Everything still worked as expected except when the screen turned off and locked. At this point the music starts stuttering so bad it is impossible to listen to. If I turn the screen back on everything works great until the screen locks again.

So, I was thinking that maybe I had screwed something up and I went ahead and reflashed my ROM image. Like magic, Play Music was working as I expected it to. However, this morning I noticed that the app updated again (I am assuming my ROM image had an older version) and now I have the exact same stuttering audio issue.

Has anyone else seen this issue when listening after the screen locks? The problem exists for downloaded and online streamed music so it doesn't appear to be SD card related, although I don't know exactly how online music is buffered.

Probably a ROM level issue. Only time I've ever had an issue with GPM was an issue with my ROM.

Especially since it only happens when the screen it off. The ROM probably has task killer tweaks that keeps attempting to turn off GPM or the kernel is being way too aggressive trying to go to sleep.

That's a good idea concerning the kernel. I did try flashing a different kernel without any luck however, but I suppose they could both be doing the same thing.

I will try installing an older GPM version and see what happens.

I seriously use GPM like 4-5 hours a day on my laptop, ipad and OnePlus. On the newest version of the app on all devices with no problems.

The other day on the way home Xbox music on my Nexus 5 was stuttering; kind of like a CD with scratches. I thought it was pretty weird. Whatever caused it though went away because it was fine today.

Thanks everyone.

I'll keep on eye on it for a bit and see what happens. I reverted a couple of versions and right now things are working fine again. I've been thinking about switching back to Spotify anyhow, so maybe this will give me a reason to switch.

I am on stock 4.4.2 on my Note 3 and i get the same stuttering. I thought it was to do with the headphone jack, but does it with Bluetooth streaming too.

Interesting.

I wonder if it has something to do with the Android version.

Until quite recently I was running 4.4.4 and never saw any issues. I believe the latest version of GPM was already out when I was still on that version as well.

No problems here on my Z3C with 4.4.4. I had problems with stuttering every so often on my G2 which I think was on 4.4.2 but it was intermittent (like once a month) and usually a restart fixed it.
