About a week ago now, when my wife and I were getting ready to go drive up to Dallas for Xmas, we were pulling into a gas station. I got this pain starting below and left of my lungs but above my stomach. I just barely caught a glimpse of someone out of the corner of my eye a couple of pumps away, nothing particularly threatening about this kid....
I insisted on getting out of the car with my wife. I never do this.
It was like 35 degrees out. What the hell was I thinking?
3 minutes later this guy walks up and is pulling the "please buy my stuff, cuz I'm in dis program ta keep me off drugz". Kid can't be but 15 or so, but doesn't want to take no for answer. About the fifth time saying no, I get that "I'm seriously about to get pissed look". (lowering eyebrow, speaking very forcefully, raising shoulders) He finally takes the answer and leaves. As we drive off, the pain in me subsides...
I live in Austin and get panhandled on a regular bassis. I've never had a personal gut feeling go off like this though, this NEED to get out of the car and make certain my wife was not out there alone.
I'm still trying to figure out why things happened the way they did. Are there insticts that we as people don't listen to often? Are there things in our bodies that can tell us more than our 5 senses normally do??
