Anyone else have this "sense"?

About a week ago now, when my wife and I were getting ready to go drive up to Dallas for Xmas, we were pulling into a gas station. I got this pain starting below and left of my lungs but above my stomach. I just barely caught a glimpse of someone out of the corner of my eye a couple of pumps away, nothing particularly threatening about this kid....

I insisted on getting out of the car with my wife. I never do this.
It was like 35 degrees out. What the hell was I thinking?

3 minutes later this guy walks up and is pulling the "please buy my stuff, cuz I'm in dis program ta keep me off drugz". Kid can't be but 15 or so, but doesn't want to take no for answer. About the fifth time saying no, I get that "I'm seriously about to get pissed look". (lowering eyebrow, speaking very forcefully, raising shoulders) He finally takes the answer and leaves. As we drive off, the pain in me subsides...

I live in Austin and get panhandled on a regular bassis. I've never had a personal gut feeling go off like this though, this NEED to get out of the car and make certain my wife was not out there alone.

I'm still trying to figure out why things happened the way they did. Are there insticts that we as people don't listen to often? Are there things in our bodies that can tell us more than our 5 senses normally do??

My nose itches whenever it's going to rain/snow. I can usually tell how far off the storm is depending on how annoying my nose is.

I'm far more predictable than the weatherman. My father and my uncle have the same affliction. We are the family meteorologists.

Those kinds of instincts/feelings are the worst cause you never know when to trust em. I usually play it safe, if my spidy sense is going off, I'll listen and do whatever it's pulling me toward. That's better than looking back and saying I should have known.

If you ask me, knowing that the people walking around me could be carrying concealed weapons would make me feel less secure, not more secure. Call me crazy, but I'm thankful I don't live in Oklahoma

I would say absolutely, I have had weird feelings like that before. I think its good you listened to it, for the sake of your wife, you never know what could have happened.

You have to go through an FBI and OSBI(Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation) background check, take a firearms safety class, pass a written test, and pass a shooting range test to get your concealed carry license. Look around the country at states that have passed such laws, the crime rates in them have fallen. Ask yourself this....if you were a would be crimal would you be more or less likely to walk into a store/bank/whatever if you knew there was a high probability that several citizens in there might be armed?

Absolutely....

If you want to look at it scientifically, you probably picked up some clues subconsciously and your brain processed the information to mean 'danger', creating a physical response (the pain).

I have spent most of my life trying to understand this type of phenomena, so it is very exciting when other people talk about it. This 'sixth' sense manifests itself in all of us, in different (and in similar) ways.

There is nothing mysterious about it, except for the fact that the brain is a mysterious and wonderful thing. Just remember that "female intuition" is just as available to men, you just need to pay attention!

I have all sorts of weird things happen to me. 🙂 If the phone rings, I can usually tell by the second or third ring exactly who it is, and quite often what they're calling about... I think that's probably memory related though. I have a great long-term memory, but tend to "lose" things for anywhere from 2-3 hours to 2-3 days before I remember them again. What's even weirder is that I'll often get a feeling that someone is going to call or page me, seconds before they do... THAT one I can't explain! 🙂 There's a few other things that don't really relate to this thread, like being able to mentally dissect music down to a single note or series of notes, or being able to tune into two different conversations at once, even when I have my headphones on... 🙂

well, i get this pain in my right side, around the diaphram when i am out of breath sometimes... it's like a sharp pain, probably like a heart attack, but it's probably not...

and i get this pain in my butt as if i am sitting on a nail whenever evan starts a new thread...

I often wake up with a song in my head. I sing it in my head. Eventually I turn on a radio, and voila! There it is... the same song. Once in awhile I will be singing right along with it when I turn it on.

I can guess presents before I open them... it really pisses off my wife 🙂

Nothing useful though 🙂 Just oddities.

I don't think there is anything odd about this. I'm no professional on the subject, but I'd say its just basic human nature to get a sense of danger when unknown people, animals or situations arise. When we sense this danger, our awareness heightens dramatically. It's just the fact that since humans have become so civilized, we have suppressed this instinct to almost non-existent levels.

Once I got this crazy sensation in my arm and this desperate urge to jerk my arm up. A few minutes later I looked down and, whatdya know, my hand was on the stove! I swear this is like that movie Phenomenon or something, maybe I was John Trivolta in a past life? Sorry, you guys gave me a sarcasm overload (yeh, not too hard to do.) Actually I agree with you scientific types, heightened awareness and all that jazz, freeing your mind, magic brownies, the like.

I always get the same pain in my side every morning its always at the same time, then I go to the bathroom and it goes away. Do you think that is strange?????

Last semester I had the urge to wear my seatbelt on the drive home. I really rarely wear it, and the little drum barely works. On the way home I saw an accident happen a few cars ahead of me. I've seen a lot of accident results, but only witnessed a handfull in my years. Hmm. maybe I should read tarot cards for hot chicks.
