i got a job where i start work at 10am, and i live about 5 minutes from work. ussally i end up being about 10 minutes late for work everyday because i wake up at about 940. i hate waking up that late but it is hard for me to wake up at 7-8. anyone got any tips to make it easier? i always say im going to wake up earlier and i ussally do for a couple of days but then i start sleeping late again out of laziness.

It just takes some getting used to and your brain has to want to wake up...when I'm at home, I can sleep in til noon or 1 every day, despite setting the alarm for 10. On the road, however, I have no problem with waking up at 6:30AM every day...and I probably feel better too.

Boo fvcking hoo, you can't even wake up at 9:30, when 75 percent of America has been working for an hour and half already.

Where the hell is self-discipline in people these days.

Getting up is all about when you go to sleep. Most people will sleep 7-8 hours even when they are well rested from day to day. Decide what time you want to get up and count the hours back. That's when you should be falling asleep.

The discipline is in going to bed on time. Getting up isn't nearly as hard when you've had enough sleep.

Go to sleep earlier?

That is the only reason I would ever have any trouble getting up [a hellava lot earlier than you].

He has a point. All you kiddies need to learn to get your asses out of bed. I always laugh at the fools who claim they are late to work because they can't wake up on time. If you worked for me and were chronically 10 minutes late you would be looking for a new job. It doesn't take much discipline to get up on time so I have to assume you just don't have any discipline at all. Go to bed earlier if you can't wake up for work on time....is it that hard?

i get up naturally with sunrise (unless its cloudy ofc), even the slightest morning light gets me up. It comes from several summers of waking up every morning right after sunrise, and waking up for class every day right after sunrise. I was conditioned to wake up with the sun. I can drink hard til 3 am and still wake up at 6 every time.

This actually doesn't seem to be true for me at least. One would think that it doesn't matter when I wake up as long as I get the same amount of sleep. However, I feel much more rested if I go to bed at 1 and wake up at 9 rather than going to bed at 11 and waking up at 7.

Its interesting. I'm in highschool, and I've been functioning finr with 4 hours of sleep a day. I go to sleep at 2 and wake up at 6. I'm tired and groggy, but I can go around and do what I need to do. Its actually impossible for me to sleep more than 8 hours.

See, right now, I'm having the problem that I wake up too early. :( My old schedule was to get up at 6:30 AM and now I wake up at 7:00 - 7:30 in a panic when I have nowhere to go. :(

He might have a point but he has no need to be so harsh. The OP was asking a question, possibly looking for advice. His post offered no advice nor did he answer the question, a better post would have been a simple "NO".

1. Buy a 2nd alarm clock. Or buy 2 if you don't have 1 to begin with.
2. Stop wacking off to teh porn. Go to sleep earlier.
3. Move to a place farther away from work. Knowing that it will take you longer to get to work, rather than always telling yourself it will only take 5 minutes to get there, may prompt you to get your ass out of bed earlier.
4. Get a new job that starts later than 10 AM.

For way too many years, I had to get up at 2:30 a.m...I had to drive nearly 100 miles to go to work, and if I was late, I missed the boat...literally...We took crew boats from the dock to our barges. If you missed the boat, it was often an hour before a boat would get back to the dock. When the crane operator doesn't make it to work, it affects the entire crew and their work. Once in a while, tide work would alter my schedule and I'd have to be to work even earlier than usual. THAT always fucked me up...I rarely got more than 5 hours sleep as it was, so anything earlier really screwed me up.

BTW, #3 CAN work, depending on the person. When I work a long way from home, I get up earlier and leave earlier to allow for traffic snafu's...When I work 5 minutes from home, I tend to be 2-3 minutes late...all the dammed time. Never fails.

This may come as a surprise to you, but people don't like working for petty authoritarian control freaks, which is why companies that want to attract and retain quality people offer flexible time, working from home etc. Where I work people care much more about what you do, rather than what kind of idiotic appearance you put up.

:Q me too!

I can wake up at will w/ one alarm clock (or even 5 minutes before the alarm rings) whenever I'm on a trip or just not at home.

Once i'm at home, it's over. I have 5 alarm clocks. (cell phone, radio alarm, 2 battery ring alarm, nintendo ds.

it doesn't work! Sometimes I wake up wondering how the F i turned off all 5 and I don't even remember ever doing it. most of the time, when all 5 blair off, I don't even give a crap, and continue sleeping.

All it takes for me though, is one person just pushing me awake and I can wake up.
