Alright a while back (1996) I started listening to techno, I really like it. Mostly like aphex twin (window licker kicked arse) moby was alright, I like sandstorm but you can only listen to so much lightstick music before you go insane. Crystal method is awsome in my opinion. But this new disco crap is REALLY starting to piss me off. Disco is dead, let it stay that way. I hate turning on my local techno station and hearing daft punk play that lame crap. It was cute for a while, sort of mixing it a little with it. But now i cant find any damn music i can listen too. Anyone else feel the same?

Oh and techno fans. Go out and rent "kevin and perry go large" just do it right now, dont even sign off the net. Its funnier then hell.

Uhh Darude, Daft Punk ain't techno.
;)

Just listen to old EM's and you will be straight.
I haven't listened to any "new" tunes in over a year or more.
I'm still stuck in 99-00..

You do realize that disco is like THE grandaddy of all electronic music right?

You are using techno as way too broad of a term:
Crystal Method is big beat
Daft Punk is house
Darude is Trance
Aphex Twin is just plain fvcking awesome(not to mention hard to catagorize)

check out the APX album Druqks

Yeah, that just about covers the techno I hate....I'm sure there's a few catagories missing though. :)

uhm your poll is absurdly biased, and that "disco crap" is fine

i mean if you've been listening to "techno" for 7 years and you're still calling "daft punk" techno, i think you got a problem

I've heard a lot of good, even great techno, but I have an inate distrust of the genre. Think - you can produce techno without breaking a sweat, without practicing, without being able to play an instrument, even without singing. All you need is a good imagination. Now, I'm the last guy to put down having a good imagination, but let's face it - it will only get you so far. I'm a college radio DJ and I play techno on my show but I don't play a preponderance of it. Like I say, I mistrust it. A lot of it sounds like someone programmed a machine and then walked away. Is that music? I favor a track on which I can hear a drummer banging his brains out. Give me ENERGY!

i think that line is pure BS

I'm a college radio DJ and I play techno on my show

do you spin or do you just play tracks?
I have a show on the radio, KALX 90.7 FM, Berkeley (we're on the Internet too - "Muse" is my handle on the air too!). I play CD's, LP's, 7 inches, 10 inches, whatever. Sometimes I even bring in cassettes. Once I played an MP3 I downloaded, but just once. We have close to 100,000 separate items in the music library at the station and new stuff comes in constantly. It's hard to keep up with all the new stuff that comes in. We even have a lot of new vinyl streaming into the station but I rarely check it out - the CD's keep me plenty busy. I used to play a lot of the new 7" records but I stopped even checking them out because the quality was usually not there. I'm sure some of them are good or great but I don't have time to check it all out.

then you shouldn't say it doesn't require practice

if you were to SPIN, a turntable would be your instrument

it takes alot of work to produce a GOOD track, and if you can't appreciate the time/effort required to make a GOOD track, oh well
