Install has been easy. The fiber comes to your house to a big ass box outside. Then they run cat5 out of it all over your house. I got a hard on that aint going down. Cant wait.... comcast... see ya!

I will give ya a review after hes done guys.

FIOS is going in fairly close to me but they "have no plans" for my neighborhood.

Damn you Verizon!

I am still holding out hope that all the roadwork & Verizon crews that have been inundating downtown is a top secret fiber rollout.

I'm considering FIOS, but have a couple concerns:

#1 - Exactly how dynamic is the IP? Verizon DSL (at leat in my area) changes your IP very regulary. My Comcast cable, however, has never changed. I really need my IP fairly static, so Comcast has worked well for me. What is FIOS like?

#2 - Do they block any specific ports? I host my own email server for a very low traffic domain, and I'd like to continue to do so. I also host Outlook Web Access for that domian. Comcast hasn't yet complained or blocked any ports on me, so once again it has been working out well. What about FIOS?

FIOS is dynamic, but like cable, you'll have the same IP unless you get kicked for whatever reason. Doubt that will still work for you though.

No servers... not sure what ports they do block but 80 for HTTP is an obvious one.

Yeah, my cable IP has never changed despite resetting the modem, and even various account problems where they've had me re-register my cable modem, so I've been happy.

I know the policy is 'no servers', but I'm wondering what the deal is real-world. Comcast says no servers too, but they've never blocked me. Port 25 and port 80 and open for me. I'd hate to lose that moving to FIOS.

When I had cable, they said no servers and they actually did block 80. FIOS does block 80 and 25, I am reading from dslreports.com right now.

I have 30 meg down, 5 meg up FIOS. Had it for many months now (had the 15/2 FIOS since mid summer, but just upgraded to 30/5 recently).

#1 - dyndns is your friend

#2 - I have heard rumors that they do, but comcast thorottles vonage ports, so until regulators get involved.... YMMV

No FIOS, but I did get my DSL rate cut to $15/month. They practically begged me to get FIOS instead.
