I went to the grocery yesterday. They were cleaned out of butter. We're a Shedd Spread kind of town and people decided to hoard butter? Jerks.

It's pretty crazy to see for sure. Never in my life have I ever seen a completely empty grocery store shelving section from one end to the other or even lot of empty sections, outside of renovation related work or if they are moving stuff etc. It's just such an odd thing to see, and is a quick reminder of how fragile our way of living is as we rely so much on things that are out of our control. It almost gives you a feeling of vulnerability knowing there's certain things you can't just easily do yourself, like make toilet paper or certain foods, if you're not properly setup/prepared.

Food wise we are ok here so far, grocery stores are still getting food stock regularly, and most take out places are open. You can't be picky but there is still plenty of food.

But lot of certain products are impossible to get, such as TP and I won't even bother trying to find masks or anything sanitation related but I don't really need any right now. If I do find masks I'll buy a bunch just so I can donate to the hospital, they probably need them. But I'm not going out unless I have to so it's more of a thing I check while I'm already there.

On one hand I don't want to order take out as it comes with a small risk, on the other hand I want to take advantage of it while it's available, so I can save the food I already have here.

I'm not sure if Home Depot is considered essential or not but I may do a trip if it's still open, I want to get stuff to grow vegetables. I hope they'll have top soil indoors as the garden centre is not opening any time soon.

Right now the food situation is ok at the grocery stores but I should probably prepare for it to get like the toilet paper situation.

Things were OK this weekend in terms of food supplies. Several empty shelves but we got most of what we wanted. With the shelter in place order I'm sure there was a lot of panic buying today and tomorrow though

Paper products are problematic with a new puppy but otherwise OK for now. I have about 6 months of flour if I bake every other day. Made some white bread, not that crappy storebought stuff. Veggies aren't in short supply yet and I've plenty of meat, which I can use less of.

Wife baked sweet milk bread today. :) Better than any store bought bread. Zero worries here.

I just came back from the grocery store. I'm not at the "concerned" level yet.

Yes, some shelves were pretty bare and there were (of course) no disposable paper items at all. But I was surprised, for example, at how full the frozen pizza section was (I would say 75% of normal). The frozen vegetable section was also fine. Also lots of ice cream.

The canned goods were at around 50%, I'd estimate. Unfortunately no ground beef at all.

There's plenty of food there.

The, I bought perishable, crowd will start again next week.

Unless they have no $$, which might not be a bad thing.

Over the weekend aldi was almost completely stripped of canned vegetables. I wanted greenbeans, but all they was French cut, which isn't my favorite. I got two cans. There was very little else. Nothing I was interested in anyway. Wegmans was 100% stripped. The only thing they had were beans of various kinds.

Heavenly!

But I have to ask about the fork.
I don't know. It was on the plate. Maybe my wife thought I wanted to use it since the bread crust had slight sticky sweet glaze and I was on my laptop computer looking at the market. I used my hands to eat.

Was laughing at the, I bought dried beans, crowd. They have never soaked a bean in their lives.

I'd only use dried beans for something like soup. For anything else, the price premium of buying canned is worth it.

Only thing that isn't available at my main store is paper towels and TP. I got a 30 pack of TP before I went on vacation March 9th so I have 30 rolls still sealed. We have 3 paper towel rolls left. My bro in law works at Aldi's though and he's going to get us some tomorrow when he works cause the employees can get something before it goes on shelves, although they are limited.

But I went today and bought stuff for my mom and she was surprised our store had everything she needed too. They were out of the almond milk I like though, Silk. Hope they get that in. Had tons of meat and tons of fresh fruit and veggies. I probably won't grocery shop for 2 weeks though as we have so much frozen stuff too.

The crazy part about the TP is none of the sites I found that sell it even let you back order it. I'm starting to wonder if there really is a shortage at the actual factory level.

I did find some jumbo commercial rolls in Australia though but I imagine the shipping would be quite insane on that.

Same approach I'm taking ... I have a couple weeks worth of food on hand but the other side is that variety is nice too and may not be available later when more people are sick.

And here in CT Home Depot is open for the moment at least ... good luck!

It takes a week or two but you can make a sourdough starter. Once it's fully developed it only needs to be fed once a week kept in the fridge. Keep the discarded portions to use for waffles.

I went to Target to buy a belt. Mines evidently snapped in half. I have no idea why. I do not have a pot belly or beer belly. I found one then I shot over to the grocery section. The shelves were barren in some aisles. Got to the meat department. Not a hen, chicken or beef in sight. I was shocked. No chicken, burgers, steaks - nada! I know people were hoarding cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, bleach, toilet paper and paper towels but, this is ridiculous.
