When I go to the polls, I feel as though I'm not voting for someone I support. Rather, I vote against the person that is the worst. That in itself I feel is indicative of the sad state of our political system.

I am on the verge of not even voting anymore due to my convictions about it.

In some ways, it doesn't matter who you vote for, because whoever is elected tends to listen mostly to paid lobbyists who work for corporate agendas. The US's political system is broken in that we no longer have a government that truly represents the people.

the primary reason I go to the voting booth is for local elections / issues.

when it comes to the national election, I tend to vote party line... I'm independant, but I tend to vote for the opposite party of the executive branch. the idea of two branches of the government being controlled by the same party just doesn't sit well with me. if the legislative and executive branches are in conflict rather than collusion, I feel they're a lot more likely to get nothing done -- which, when it comes to the federal government, is usually a good thing.

tell us who you would vote for, then we can decide whether to encourage or discourage you from voting

I just voted yesterday. Absentee ballot FTW! And I totally agree. It's getting pretty rough to vote for inspiring people. I pretty much have to vote against people who don't have our best interests at hand. It's getting very sad. I don't know how much more this country can take.

If that's how you feel do a write-in or consider some of the many smaller parties. I used to feel the way you do, but since doing a little reading and asking around I've been able to find another party that matches my opinions almost perfectly. Don't listen to all of the people trying to tell you you're waisting your vote, if it's what you believe in you've made no compromise and that's the best vote there is.

Respectfully submitted,
franksta

This is pretty much how I feel. Likes its damage control and you just have to pick the lesser of two evils.

I feel that way for voting in national elections but not for local elections and referendums. I just feel like who and what I vote for locally directly affects my life more on an everyday basis than who I vote for as Senator and Congressman to send to Washington.

??? Sorry but even as someone that mostly votes democrat I would not vote for a party that has total control over the 3 branches. Having 1 party in control of all 3 puts us right where we are right now.

I am, like it seems most, voting Democrat.
Republicans had 6 years of majority control and we are more in debt, worse foreign relations, losing more and more right everyday, scandals left and right, etc...

Democrat FTW!!!

One of the reporters on the local TV station said tonight:
We support spreading democracy all over the world, so why would we NOT want to vote, which IS democracy in action?

OP, yes, all too often, it seems like we're voting for the one we hate least. I've been a Democrat all my life, and have NEVER voted across party lines, although sometimes, I feel that the candidate I'm voting for sux...they just suck less than the other guy. I voted for Gore and Kerry, not so much becauce I thought they were the best or right men for the job, but more because "ANYONE BUT BUSH" seemed to be proper...and time has shown me that I was right. I REALLY wish the Democratic party would come up with some good candidates...someone I could REALLY get behind...but no...they leave me having to vote for "the lesser of two evils"...
