I've been fairly loyal to EA. I bought over 4 copies of Bf2, including one I got FROM REDWOOD HQ whilst testing a BATTLEFIELD game. I've always given them the benefit of the doubt, especially since their 1.3 patch issues. But seriously, I can't take much more of their bullsht press responses to bf2, or its 1.5 patch that's over almost a year overdue.

Servers constantly crashing. People crashing to desktop like clockwork. PKM kids oneshotting people in ranked servers. All in a typical night for bf2. EA's response? Patch the game, as usual. No problem, right?

The time taken for one patch? over 2 fucking years.

But hey, with this kind of personal treatment, I totally want to buy 1943 or bad company, just to get fucked like this a year after its released. I figured that out of one of their most successful games, that they wouldn't treat the community like trash, leading them along for over two years for a magical patch to fix problems. The answer (although slightly vague) from them? Move to 2142. Too bad the game is a reskin/rehash of the SAME. GAME. I almost want to drive back down to redwood and talk to the same people I did for testing and ask them if they've been using our money on drugs.

So my solution: Boycott.

Usually, I don't get into the whole boycotting scene because if you have an issue, get over it, and find a different product. I find it much different however, when a company leads me on for 2 years to think they will fix the broken aspects of the game, only to break every ETA or goal they had. Patch 1.5 was supposed to be out before Christmas. Its now MARCH. DO YOU GUYS NEED A CALENDAR IN REDWOOD? Sorry, excuses won't work. You guys had TWO YEARS to fix the shit and at the littlest bit of respect, you can't keep your loyal fans updated other than a blizzard style "Soon(TM)". I guess the 1 million+ you make in ranked servers from bf2 is chump change.

What gets me is even after this treatment, people still run out to buy these games. Even better, they keep editing future games in EXACTLY THE WAY WE STATE WOULD DISPLEASE US. Bf 1943? Only pacific first, followed possibly by the REST of the game. Cool, half a game for the same price! Even half the amount (actually more than half) of players, from 64 to what, 24 now? COOL!

Maybe I'm just raging, but I'm sure the other half a million people or so that play this game get kind of fucking burnt out over being punted to desktop by some hacker, all because a company decided your game was no longer worthy of patching or fixing. It's like steam breaking counter-strike 1.6, and telling people to get over it, and just go to source. Not acceptable. FIX. THE. GAME. RELEASE THE PATCH.

I figured there was some rage, but after talking to my friends it seems even the most patient of us is getting testy with the ea drama. They sure know how to make themselves look bad in every. single. way.

I'm pretty sure EA has nothing to do with Patching this game.

Your right, its just.......their game. Nothing to do with it. IIRC dice is part of EA.

from wiki: Dice= "EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment"

their forums are down (US ones), and IIRC the topic of this forum is PC gaming. I'm seeing if other people whom have been watching this saga for years are finally starting to go crazy. Thanks for trying though.

Pardon me if I laugh but I didn't think anyone was gullible enough to be loyal to EA, much less for 2 whole years...

Loyal as in when they asked me I would come down to redwood and test the actual game, rather than play the game for 2 hours, fill a survey out roughly with little feedback, whilst waiting for my free game. Or actually buying 2142 (biggest waste of $50 next to Madden 200X). Essentially, loyal enough to put up with PR shit like DRM limitations, or the new CEO stating they're "getting back to our developer roots", then releasing more fucking rehashes of old IP.

Yep I made the mistake of buying BF2142 when it came out and haven't bought an EA game since.

I never expected this patch to actually come out and Highway to Tampa was an excellent free map so im not pissed.BF Heros, BF 1943 and Bad Company 2 is where the BF fans should be directing their rage. The Battlefield series is officially dead.

The lack of patches is a fact indeed, but for me BF2 has never crashed once, perhaps I was just lucky, but I'm being honest. The one thing I did noticed at first were a couple of obvious bugs indeed, and some balance-related issues, but I've never experienced a crash nor a freezing issue, well at least not so far. And perhaps surprisingly I wasn't even aware that the 1.5 patch was announced/started two years ago, I thought they started somewhere late last year and that it would take them some time. I mean it took Relic about a full year to patch the very buggy Soulstorm, so delays for important patches happen, sometimes, it's not common however, I would agree on that.

In the end I can certainly say that I've been disappointed in E.A, a lot, but some of their products are worthy of being bought (BF2, C&C3, RA3, are some of them in my book and actual games collection). But what is important to note is that E.A is a business just like any others, they need and want to make lots of money and feed the common consumers with refreshes and cloned games with new skins, it's working, the fishes bite, so let's go fishing there. It's sad, but very few companies out there understand the concept of being a business and at the same time being human and passionate about their games even if they're becoming old, and one such company does exist, and its name is Valve.

I would also like to mention Blizzard, but ever since they decided to create THREE iterations of StarCraft II with the excuse that each of team will include a campaign for each of the three races, then I think they've simply lost the connection between sense and non-sense, and now only focus on business and money, which has nothing to do and isn't befriended with passion and respect for consumers, those are completely different things that sadly don't need each others to exist. You can have a company only doing business and not caring much or respecting much about their consumers without going bankrupt, and one such game is E.A.

BF2 crashes me to desktop on a regular basis on both my computers when server goes to shit. Usually when my game CTD's, the server also goes down so that basically tells me to stop playing for the night. The damn menu is clunky as a beaten up 1986 Oldsmobile and yes, the PKM one-shot kiddies are rampant. Hackers are not uncommon and they absolutely love calling down a thousand vehicle drops. However, the game is still fun as hell for the most part for me until my game crashes. Then I go and play some L4D with the people on my IRC room.

Yep. I generally avoid EA for their poor customer service and poor support of their released software.

Just like any other company, they will slowly lose customers until they fix their customer service and support, and even then it will not bring back the customers they jaded in the past. It appears that they are in the midst of a slow death.

the CTD is people hacking the servers, causing memory leaks. The menu is an absolute shitfest of lag even with an amazing system, and hackers are twice as rampant in bf2 wheras 2142 is the same engine and has half the hackers  It's a fun game, I mean I still play it rarely and I play PR commonly, but I miss the days of karkand infantry only with my clannies, racking up like 100-20.

I don't trust any publisher these days, they all seem willing to abandon buggy games that don't keep selling well enough.

I usually wait to buy until after a game is released and the first round of paying beta testers (aka "customers") lets me know how bad the bugs are.

EA's port of Mass Effect to the PC was quite good, so I bought it.

Atari shipped Neverwinter Nights 2 as an almost unplayable mess so I waited six months for enough patches to come out to make it worth the money.

Waiting isn't always an option for the shooter of the month club since the crowd will move on to a new game, but you can always decide to skip one if you don't like the quality at release.

I've been playing BF2 for years, and before that played BFV, BF1942, and have messed around with BF2142 for a few months here and there. BF2 has never crashed on me that I recall. Game glitches and design problems are many, but the point is: what else replaces it? The combination of play space and game mechanic just isn't precisely reproduced by any other game. It has its good and bad points, but it has carved out a strong following because of that uniqueness.

The BF2 experience is definitely unique which is why I put up with the lagfest menus and the CTDs. There still isn't a single game out right now that has the same massive multiplayer experience with modern weapons that BF2 offers.

hmm just re-installed the game to play with friends, hope it's not the nightmare the OP describes it as :(

I do agree though it's quite comical (not in a funny way) how a game can build to the point where you can have 64 players, weapon x, equipment x, ability x and then they'll come out with version 2 of the game and everything starts back to the basics. There's hardly ever forward progression in PC games.

While I'd admit to liking 2142 better then BF2 I do feel like I was ripped off. 1943 with its reused BF2 maps looks laughable.
